Just received this months copy of Runner's World - once again there's a fit lass on the front.
Why do you reckon that is? Are they implying that running is a sport mostly undertaken by slinky blonds? Or is this to appeal to blokes to buy it (or maybe accidentally pick up a copy instead of FHM)
Just for the record, I am by no means complaining about this - just though it might make an interesting topic!

as popsy says-it sells
was a nice thread where real runners were on the fornt-but they dont want that
would not sell
...still good to to look at though.
with nice shaved legs
and tans
not that i buy it
but i have seen it in the shops
That has to be the first time I've actually seen someone else mix up Cougie and Popsider... the wonder cyclists!
¦oD
One complaint, here shorts are neither short nor tight enough. I mean, she could have sprayed them on surely ?
Id much rather see a nice girly in tight lycra )
Men like to look at them, women aspire be them.
Sad but true.

I enjoy objectifying women, on times :-) One or two have even been flattered, well, maybe not as many as two anyway.
It's to make you take up the £1 subscription to Esquire
;o)
cringe
I'm cancelling my subscription for this very reason - every month I'm greeted by anonymous female models on the cover, adverts targeted to women in the pages, and articles featuring women taking up running for the first time.
If it must be women, then SURELY you can find actual inspiring female athletes to feature? Corbin? Newby-Fraser? Jenn Shelton even? No, because this isn't a serious running magazine. Sorry if I'm preaching to the converted but after a year of this, I've had enough of benign articles about the "ten best ways to beat belly fat in 5 weeks".
There may the the odd interesting article here and there - but for the money why not just read blogs online?
Also, a regular, gloomy piece from the token 'self-effacing male' Paul Tonkinson about how he is a proud mid-packer who is getting slower each year due to his steadily advancing years, is doing absolutely NOTHING for my running motivation.
I figure this site is actually the best way to get new running info - I'll just sack off Women's Health (RW) for now.
Might I suggest Athletics Weekly. That has quite a few real runners in it, and you still get adverts for shiny trainers and stuff.
Great - I do love shiny trainers and stuff
'Girls- you too could have a body like this! Buy our product'
'Guys -you too could have a girl who has a body like this! Buy our product'
I really wish someone would tell my how the heck they find these old threads.
The last post on this one was 8 years ago - must be something of a record.
Current thread quality must be a bit on the shit side.
I found the thread while googling for running magazines to subscribe to - no disrespect intended towards current threads.
Thanks for explaining - I was just wondering.
I find it annoying that all of my copies of the magazine have identikit young ladies on the cover - that means that I can't tell immediately which issue it is - is it the one with the healthy eating recipes and weight loss tips, or is it the one with the weight loss tips and healthy eating recipes?
It'll be the one with healthy eating tips and weight loss recipes, dachs.
I'd like an article that tells me if I go for a 20 mile run in the morning, how much Cafe Nero chocolate cheescake can I stuff my face with in the afternoon? I could contribute to that. The answer is 'quite a lot, actually'.
Yes. Or the top ten healthy foods which are making you slower.
I see a bright editorial future for you Cheerful Dave
It annoys me when they have things about obstacle races in it. Or bikes. Or swimming.
And why are the majority of fave runs on the other side of the planet? Show us "bright spots of Luton", "scenic run in Rochdale" or "Joyous Journey through Jaywick"
