I'm fairly new to this forum, having only just recently got a broadband connection (and it's Talk Talk, but therein lies another thread). Anyway...
I think we need to talk about this. Most of the threads have been either a laugh, or an interesting swap of ideas. Others have been a bit more personal and I've shared a few things that maybe I might not have done without a glass of chardonnay, but hey, we've all done it and at the end of the day none of this is reality. I've also posted a couple of things that I meant as a joke, and thanks to the lack of expression in the flat written word, people have read the wrong thing into their reaction has made me feel pretty bad. On the few times this has happened, I've apologised, apart from one case, where I just managed not to hit the 'submit' button on the reply I was tempted to post.
Having been a runner for a good few years, and joined several clubs thanks to having moved around a bit, I firmly believe that runners in general are are particularly supportive and friendly bunch, encouraging each other, with people who finish a race first yelling "well done" (and meaning it)at the people who come in towards the end of a race and who've made a huge effort to get to the start line, let alone the finish.
So given that forumites seem to be in the same mould, what exactly is going wrong on the RW forum on some threads, and why?

Not everyone will agree with everyone and its healthy to get it out in the open IMO
Also (!) if you start a contraversial thread then dont be surprised if someone has a view different to yours

I don't like bullying but I haven't seen any of that - just an exchange of views
Sometimes it is just heated differences of opinion sometimes it gets personnal - usually when its personnal its the same culprits time and time again
Its not going to change with so many different people in one place all be it a virtual place
You find you own place eventually and get on with it :O)
There are alot of lovely forumites here, but i think there alot of trouble makers too that spoil it for everyone and actually get off on intimidating people!

I've only been on here since this time last year....
I have got used to the occasional conniption fit from the forum, and generally things settle down after a few days - although the "severe harm" incident lasted longer than most.
I personally couldn't give a flying F*ck what people say about me - although I admit the first time I was on the receiving end of some tart remarks i was a bit taken aback.
Generally speaking folks tend to gravitate towards other folks or threads that they get a connection with. There are some lovely people here on the thread, although I have to say the noxious ones do add some spice occasionally.
Its only when some numpty has a bad day and fires off a flamer that things spiral out of control.
Best to "avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit" as someone much wiser than I once said.

When all's said and done it's only a forum, where most of us have aliases, often silly ones. If you get worked up about it you're investing too much emotional energy.
Agreed JB, the day I get worked up about anything anyone says on here is the day I pack in.
