A silly question but I thought I'd better check. Presumably it starts and finishes in Tywyn, you don't just run uphill all the way and get the train back?
This is one of the best races out there, but alas the organizational side of things isn't slick, but if you can ignore the failings there you will have a cracking run!!
I entered a few years ago but didn't make it because I hadn't booked accommodation in time but I received a mug in the post quite soon afterwards despite not even starting!
IMHO you need to be around 1:20 for half mara or sub-3:00 for full mara to have a fighting chance - and be strong on hills / multi-terrain. Like any race it depends on the weather - and how much ploughed field, gates to climb, etc, have to be navigated, which varies a bit from year to year.
But there are plenty in the 80-90% of RTT runners, like yours truly ,who have no chance of beating the train (the first one, anyway) but still have a great time and keep coming back for more.
All fees for 2008 have been held at the 2007 entry fees price. Therefore, entry fees for the Rotary Challenge8- Main Race will be £18. You should now be able to down load and entry form form the morning races and main race from the web site www.racethetrain.co.uk. Further information will be added onto the new web page very soon as it is still under construction.
You will have to be under 1.47 to beat the tarin in the main race.

IM - yes it's out and back, all on your own two pins.
I did a rough mapmyrun plot of the course last year - see link in my post at 23:51 on page 7 of this thread.
NB don't try training on the route in advance - it goes over quite a lot of private land, including a farmer's back garden!
That's the 10k race? I beat the train and did get a certificate in the post - worth giving them a shout about it if you do want the cert.
2008 ENTRIES NOW OPEN!
