Really enjoyed the weekend despite the weather. Raced the 10k and benefited from my knowledge of the course from previous attempt at the full distance. Pushed hard up the hill at the start and held position along the single track stuff then spent a couple of k getting my breath back, before working hard on the hrm (95% max mostly!) in the second half.
Didn't set any records, but beat the train by a good 3 minutes - which was a result. I'm considering 2008 for another attempt at the long run.
If any of the RW readers were dancing to Wigfield at the bar end of the marquee last night, I've got it on video and will stick it on youtube later - it was pretty funny to watch. :P
Well, another year done, and still haven't beat the train. Next year maybe. Managed 1:50 so a minuet faster than last year. Just as wet and just as much fun. Great weekend had by all the club (Port Talbot harriers). Hope every one else had a good time.
Just like to say thanks to all the marshals that stood out in all that rain to make this race possible for us all.
That was great fun and a lot tougher than I thought it would be. Ploughed field, gates to climb over and a marsh/bog to squelch through. What better way to spend a Saturday. I somehow managed to beat the train (1:44:44), I thought it was a lost cause at about 2 mile to go, it's whistle sounded so closed.
Unlucky chris22 you were so close (1:48 the train came in)
1:48 train eh? I had heard that it ran a 1:44, which would have been a bit of a bggr. Not many did beat it this year though, so well done to you Carrot, and the others.
Really enjoyed the racing this year. Bit damp for camping but thought it was ideal conditions for racing.
After a steady start on the 10k I some how managed to work up the feild to finish first. Got a nice silver plate and a substantial cheque.
Main race was a bit duanting on quite tired legs. Went off steady but still a bit quicker than I planned. Nice to be overtaking for the first half of the race, then just tried to hold my position on the second half. Finished 10th in 1:35 and we won the team prize.
Drank far too much after the race and am still feeling a bit ropey.
Rene- Wigfield always catches me out after a few drinks. I'm the one in the yellow Tshirt
HTA - tickets weren't actually needed... I asked at registration and they said as much.
Was still a bit nervous walking over the field to the entrance incase they did ask for them (there were a couple of bouncers - made me feel 16 again!) - but no questions asked, just straight in.
Not sure why they wrote tickets required on the form / race pack - as the marquee was far from full.
I have had 60 photo's sent me for inclusion on my site. I'm adding them now with the photographers names on them. If anyone else has photo's that they want adding, please email them to me. Remember this is a free site www.dk10k.co.uk

Great race with wonderful marshals and officials but what an obnoxious trio of railway staff at the station!! Got to station at 9.30 thinking train taking us to 10k start was 10.00 - tickets werely feint so it was actually 1030 train - we were told in no uncertain terms that we could not wait in the station hall and would have to go outside - which we did without question, only to be told in a very rude manner by a lady official that we couldn't even wait outside the staion( in the pouring rain and srong wind mind you!!) she even asked the question"are you running" no I always stand out in the wind and rain dressed in vest shorts and a black bin bag - perhaps she thought we were vagrants!!! it actually spoiled the atmosphere for me for a while ( as a matter of fact - we drove back to our campsite and got a lift to the start - so didn't use the train in the end all this did not spoil a good race in the end - we had a lot of fun - just waiting nowfor results thought they might be on quicker with being chipped - altho I did not notice a mat to run over at the start to record start time.
Just read oldasthmatic's rating. I agree it seemed muddier than last year, despite less rain - and even more plough. Was it just me, or was it a real challenge to match last year's time? Two closed gates didn't save any seconds. Will be interesting to see how other repeat visitors fared year on year, when the results are finally up.
I dont remember a gate last year, but I for one thought it was easier this year and thats without any training. Could just be me though. The bog seemed bigger this year but not as boggy?
Great, so each run is definitely a PB then?! By the way, does anyone know exactly what time the train did? I finished in 1:47:34 on my watch and, although there was no train visible on the platform crossing the bridge, I wasn't aware of hearing its final whistle......did I beat it or not?!

I finished in 2hrs 2, first attempt. So you don't get told if you beat the train or get a momento? Thought you would get something extra.
