• CM do you use your Russian now? I did law and French and can barely say anything. Weirdly the grammar is still all there but my vocab has vanished. I always planned to do languages - did French, Spanish, Latin and German at school but couldn't think of anything to be once I graduated so got seduced by the unconditional offer to do law with french. Meant sixth form was a total skive! Originally I had thought of doing czech with french at cambridge but - and this is ridiculous- if you wanted to apply to oxbridge you had to go and see this one teacher at school to do the application and I was terrified of him so decided not to bother!
• EF - no idea. I googled it and nothing came up. So as stumped as you are. Please let me know what it is as it is bugging me now image

Some good running going on - Lotte fab race even if it did feel rubbish. That is a great time, well done.

Just a quick skim read and have forgotten it all already.

I quite like hills too, but by far prefer the down to the up! Hilly races trash my quads though.

JT - not long now then - have a rest though!! image

Leila turned 2 last Friday, so we had her party at the weekend with lots of screaming toddlers running around.. We got her a 10ft trampoline so at least that kept them occupied.

Proud Mummy moment this evening. She has just started to take an interest in the potty that has been kicking around for ages, and Daddy this evening had her with her nappy off while I was at work, and she did a poo on it!! Then when hubby took it away to clean it and left it in the toilet, she asked "where's mine potty gone?" so he got it and she sat and did a wee on it!! I guess this is our cue to start potty training then!?

• X - posts CC (()) Must be tough being alone a lot of the time in a new place. You seem like you are doing a great job though. Make sure you grab as much "me" time as you can when he is around!

My friends hubby is in the army and is off to Afghanistan in 6 weeks until April. She has one child almost 2 and a 6 month old baby. I have no idea how she copes. It would drive me mad!

• Jeez CC he is having to be away alot.(()) Is this just circumstances just now or is it likely to continue? Hows the whole meeting people thing going for you?Oh and I think a trip to Glasgow to support you is the least your hubby can do - you can tell him I said so image

EF - sounds like you had a lovely holiday but not so nice on the tooth front, hope it is better soon. I have no idea about that puzzle - my kids are in bed or I would have asked them!!

JT - I hope you are tucked up in bed now and managed some rest this afternoon.

MM - great BJ miles. Hope knee is ok.

Went to track session tonight (I did rest mon and tues MM!) and felt pretty good. 2 miles w/u, 10 mins tempo (average 6.28mm) then 6 X 600m with 200 recoveries, 5 mins tempo at (6.34mm) then only 1 lap c/d as I had to get back to my mum who was babysitting and had to go out at 7.30.

Hubby just got home a wee while ago after being away since early yesterday. Then I am supposed to be heading to Aberdeen on the boat tomorow night for the cremation. Dreading the trip after a few days of a SE gales and still wind forecast for tomorrow. That will be an enjoyable 12 hours image

• x-posts Happy Birthday Leila. Funny about the potty as Cameron did similar thing today. Stripped him for the bath and out of the blue he said 'need pee in potty' went and found it (I'd taken it down from the loft but it was just kicking around) and did a pee in it. Only thing is I was going to wait until after our October holiday until thinking about trying it. Don't think Lewis is ready yet.

MM - did you potty train your two at the same time or separately?

• Lotte MM's boys did it together I think, pretty early on at about 2, just as they moved house! They never pick a good time do they!

I am waiting till our house is a bit less of a building site. I want to just bite the bullet, and say that's it, no nappies, here are your knickers, and wait for the mess. I think in a few days she'll get it, but with nappies still on she's just going to keep going in the nappies. She has done a few things in the potty, but never asking for it, and occasionally she says I've done a poo but not often, and she's not always right!

• Lotte yes Caro is right. I didn't 'train' them at all, they decided they didn't like disposable nappies after we moved house and saw me take the potty out of a box and stripped off, and we were off. As Caro said, never a good time!! So yes together, as they have always done everything together really. Helps with bribery!!

Knee still very sore so looks like I'm not going to club. Think the fall has knocked it out of balance and its just take a couple of weeks to tighten up. Not very amused tbh image.

No idea on that puzzle either EF. Has got me thinking thats for sure...

And I was going to ask the same question about your hubbie CC. He seems to be away far more than before. Is this how it is from now on?

• I love hills, my brain will not allow me to stop on a hill so it is a real test of grit to get to the top whatever the size of the hill and love the freefall going down the other side, like being a kid again just letting your legs go as fast as they can with no control over them, fab!image Just as well really cos can't avoid them round here, only way i could have a flat run is to run up and down the main road between the two hills either side and it's only about 1km long.

TT ;0)

• EF - I'd be with you on bad weather on changeable weather. Even asked my chum (who is a Principal Teacher in a primary school) if she knew what it was and she was like 'eh?'. What school is it EF - must make sure we're not in the catchment area for it as clearly am not clever enough for the homework they get, lol!

Lotte - sorry to hear about your gran. I lost my gran in January (on her 90th birthday) image My other granny is 94 although after breaking her hip 2 years ago her health has gone downhill considerably (along with her weight). Was on the news yesterday that the UK's oldest woman died at 111 and her son-in-law was paying tribute to her - he was about 85 by the look of him, good going at that age to still have a MiL (although many men might argue otherwise!!).

CM - yes, go the funeral. I think the death of peers or those younger than us really brings home your own mortality and the general fragility of life. Two stories in the last week have both made me think just how bloody unfair life can be at times Little Rock and Mothers Torment and that I really have got nothing much to moan about.

TB - hope all going well with the new job.

MM - bummer on knee. I have fallen twice in the last 2 months - skinning palms of both my hands fantastically both times (ooya!). First time my entire knee was black and blue, second time managed to get the wobbly dimply cellulite bit of my thigh an impressive shade of black and blue as well. I must have two left feet!

Great racing all you 5Kers and GScottishR folk. As for my running - well my kit has enjoyed being taken to work and then brought home again every night for at least a week now! And to make it worse my appetite appears to be insatiable - my body is clearly genetically programmed to begin stockpiling for the impending winter!!! Really must get my ever-expanding ass in to gear and get out there image Might even try a hill - have to say that hate them when running up the damn things but my Garmin clearly shows they are the only time I can actually maintain a consistent (albeit slow) pace.

CC - with you on absent husbands, grrr. Mines is off to Sweden for for a week with work (flying out crack of sparrow fart next Sunday morning) and he then had the audacity to ask if he could 'leave me to it' this Saturday and bu**er off to Leuchars air show! Am hoping for a long lie and some me time on Sunday!!

Right, back to work I suppose - have procrastinated long enough about doing a site plan for our new website.

• So much to catch up on here if you miss a few days - our charger finally died so I didn't have the laptop again and it really is annoying. Just picked up a new one from the shop as they decided there wasn't a reason why the old other new one we had bought stopped working!

Martha's first day back at play school today and she cried - apparently was fine once I left though.

Aidan took his first steps on Saturday and is moving on from cruising already - a bit of a surprise, so he's sporting his fair share of bumps and bruises at the moment!

Lotte - shame about your race - hope you do get a chance to rest and recover a bit!

CM - I'd probably go to the funeral too - my boss from my old job died a few weeks ago from a sudden heart attach - he was only 38 - couldn't go because it was in the Cardiff, I agree it must be very sad for parents to lost adult children like that - although its awful at any age obviously.

EF - glad you had a good holiday! And RB too!

Got back ache at the moment and hopefully its just because I've got my period but I'm not going to run until it settles down!
• Kinsey - first steps already? Remind me, how old is Aiden now? Neither of my other 2 walked until they were 12 months and Anna's not showing any signs of wanting to move anywhere by any means yet so am hoping we've still got a while of her staying in one place ...

MM - shame about the knee, take it easy there.

Caro - we did what you suggested with both of ours, one day just switched to knickers during the day and never looked back. They're all different though and although Lily got it straight away, Issie did take a bit longer. In fact we're only now trying to get issie dry in the night which she's managed for the last 2 days image. Having said that, we are cheating a bit by lifting her during the night but it's definitely progress.

Sonya - ow, sorry to hear about the re-stitching, what a pain! Hope it all goes okay.

JT - sounds like you'll be springing back to normal size pretty quickly after this baby. Wish I'd learned the lessons of putting on too much weight during pregnancy but never did image. Still, finally reached my goal weight a few weeks back and am still losing weight without even trying because of the hm training. Don't think I'll ever be a skinny-minnie like some of you ladies but feels good not to look like back end of a bus any more image.

• Aidan's 11 months on the 14th - Martha took her first steps at 11 months so he seems to have caught her up after being slower to sit up and crawl!

Am thinking I might try proper potty training with Martha this weekend and see how it goes - she runs around in her pants sometimes but generally just has an accident in the end although the other night she did wee in the toilet. Would be amazing if she just did it all of her own accord but I suspect she will need a bit more attention!
• Trying to distract myself. Waiting for kids coming home. It is blowing a hoolie, the sea is huge an I am cacking myself about 12 hours on the boat tonight. And then repeating it again tomorrow night.

Kinsey - I cannot believe Aidan is 11 months already. Hope your back feels better soon.

MR - lol at the running kit accompanying you to work.

13 easy for me today. Legs feeling not too bad and niggles good. Won't be able to run tomorrow. Right here comes the bus. Got a swimming run to do with 2 extra kids, tea and and then have to leave for the boat at 5.30.

• Just bought all the bits for the loft bathroom - eek! Credit ard nearly had a heart attack., as did hubby image Still need to decide on tiles, think we're just going to tile the floor, and do a tile 'skirting' type rim round the bottom of the wall, plus tiles in the shower and a splashback above the basin. Tiling is so expensive! I am definitely in the wrong profession. I asked the plumber what he'd charge for tiling the whole room and he said £1800! And it's not a large room by any means.

Getting really fed up of it all now, just want all the men out of my house, and be able to clean properly. There is a thin coating of dust everywhere now, and the first tradesman of the day arrived at 7.30 this morning! Matilda seems to be expecting men and noise in her house all the time now, and looks for them when they're not there.

Feeling a bit blurgh, hubby was unwell yesterday, spent the afternoon in bed, I was feeling really lethargic all afternoon and by 6pm could barely move and felt sick. Went to bed early and kept alternating between boiling and freezing. Have more energy today but still feel sick and have no appetite which is most unusual. M was slightly sick this morning, just a small amount of clear liquid, which she also did 2 mornings ago and then was fine all day, so I'm afraid I packed her off to nursery and packed myself off to work, and we haven't had any phonecalls so I'm assuming all is well.

• X post Lotte - hope all goes as well as it can do tomorrow.
• Caro - hope you feel better soon - stomach bugs are the worst.

Lotte - good luck with the boat trip - hope it isn't too rough.
• Lotte - good luck with the trip. Where are you off to? Must have missed it somehow.

Well done to Aidan walking. Not a moments peace now. Not that you had any before.

Caro - do you reckon you or hubby could teach yourself to tile? My sister learnt how to and she isn't overly practical by any means. Hope you feel better soon.

We have been out this morning, but this afternoon we stayed at home and kept Leila in pants. She has had no accidents and done 2 wees on the potty. Both while I was out of the room . The 2nd one, she decided to walk the potty to the toilet to pour it away. I came out the kitchen to see her walking down the corridor with a potty full of wee! image

• well done Aiden!! Shocking how quicly they grow up!

Hope the boat trip is OK Lotte.

Think theres a lot of bleurgh about at the moment. Nate certainly isn't himself and managed to vomit all over hubby the other day. Hope you feel better soon Caro.

• Erm, I think I'll let hubby do the painting, but not tiling! I just have visions of our beautiful new bathroom with a suspect tile job, plus alot of the tiling has to be done at the same time as the bits are fitted, and the floor tiles will have to be cut to go round the units etc etc. So the short answer is not in a million yrs angelicas! image

Supposed to be going out tonight for a drink with some mummies. It's 5 mins walk from home and I've taken a days holiday tomorrow so I've got no excuse not to, and can always go home if I feel rough, so think I will go.

Well done to Lelia! I just want to crack on with potty training now, so really need all the building work to stop!

• oo - lot of bleurgh-ness going on. i was bleurgh on mon and tues but feeling much better now. running still pants tho. 6.8 miles today; hills most definitely are NOT my friends; and neither is blistering heat!

J first day at school today. putting some pix on facebook for anyone interested. he is a terrible poser for photos. always have stupid smile - couldn't get him to smile normally!

then first solo swimming lesson. which he absolutely LOVED.

i am so proud of my wee boy!

• JT - great news on the date. are you in at the gwent? J went in for an afternoon today and back again tomorrow for the same. then he does 9 - 2.30 all week next week (why? that is only 45 mins less than a full day!); and then onto full days from the following week. he LOVED it. was ebullient when he came out.

it is so funny to see him interacting in 'big boy' situations now. dropped him off at his first ever solo swimming lesson today and i was not even allowed to stay and watch. image This freaked me slightly. BUT off he went dutifully following the teacher to the pool. and she said 'i need you all to sit on the edge of the pool while i explain the rules to you', and he piped up 'what are rules?'. he was the only one talking. that's my boy! and when i turned up half an hour later to collect him, all i heard as i turned the corner into the pool was 'look at me - i'm swimming without holding on to anything'. bold as brass! he was GUTTED that the lesson was over. 'why did you come to get me mum? i hadn't finished'. they really do grow up FAR too fast!

• cc -re: hubby. i don't know HOW you tolerate it. i couldn't...
• Apologies have only just skim-read, quick question for Caro! I've just ordered a ton of Royal Canin Light food (please tell me it's decent stuff...!) and I wanted to check how much I should give Ralph based on the guidelines on the packet. Do I give him the daily amount they say as it's "light" or should I still cut down the portions? Thank you and hope you have a good night out and are feeling better image

• JT - it's in the old JJB place on Maesglas (can't remember the name of it now) - on the same estate as woolies used to be.
• An extreme quickie...

Just about surviving my first week back - have had HIDEOUS amounts of stuff to get my head round and have been working from 8-5.30, then back home for tea, bath and bed routine, then back to work again from 7-10. Ugh. Just about catching up with things now so will hopefully be a little less manic soon...

from what I have (very briefly!) skimmed - well dones to Aidan on the walking, hope the bathroom isn't too messy for Caro and that you're better soon, good luck to Lotte for the boat, GRRR to hubby CC, HUGe well done to Jacob for his swimming and OMG I can't believe you'll be a mummy again soon JT!! Sorry to anyone I've missed - catch up soon!!!
