osteochondritis in ankle (OCD) or os trigonum

Cutting a very long story short, over a year after problem started I've finally got an MRI scan of my painful ankle. Apparently it shows a Grade 1 osteochondral lesion (also known as ostrochondritis dissecans) - an area where the cartilage on talus has lifted from the bone but not detached completely. Orthopod doesn't seem much interested and says I will just have to put up with it until/unless it gets worse.

Orthopod didn't even suggest the possibility of surgery, but reading up on the internet, it appears that, unlike knees, repairing/removing cartilage in the ankle can be quite invasive and may not work. So they only seem to do it when the injury is disabling (mine just makes walking and running painful).

Orthopod says I can run on it "unless it hurts too much, in which case don't".

Now to the second point - I've just noticed that the radiologist's MRI report mentions that I have an os trigonum (floating bone in ankle, apparently occurs in about 10% of people). Orthopod didn't mention this in consultation. Having googled it, it seems this is sometimes also a cause of symptoms similar to mine. I've written to specialist to ask why politely he didn't see fit to mention this.

Meanwhile, as you might expect, I'm contemplating getting a second opinion from a foot/ankle clinic, but would welcome experiences/advice from anyone else who's been in the same boat with either osteochondritis or os trigonum.

What were your symptoms, treatment, did you continue to run?
