Blimey no, I hate swimming. I don't do much of anything now except drinking wine and losing at poker. Or in Nevada, drinking mojitos and winning at poker, bizarrely. It must be the mint.
Speaking of which, did you get into the Vermont thing yet Scott?
Because if they are still being sniffy about it, you could sign up for that Mojave 50 miler and undertake to finish that in 12 hours as a qualifier. A bulletproof plan if ever there was one.
i got an email from vermont lady yesterday giving me all sorts of useful information on flights, hotels etc. very impressive how long and informative her emails were. so far, i have not officially been "accepted" into her race...but i am confident i will.
i cant work the mojave desert race into my work schedule ... and i am so f..ing out of shape that even one marathon i did sunday (ridiculously slow) has me still very sore.
but i will ensure i get into vermont and i win that belt buckle.
did you win the 3rd place finishers jacket at the triple? i read all the reports on the site, brilliant.
how old is the man who came out of retirement and did the IM in florida? (his report doesnt say)
His wife, Deb did the IM as well that year? the video which shows him finishing also shows his wife nicely dressed in jeans, relaxed and all smiles, not looking tired at all.
that's why I retired - I figured with my advancing years I was never going to get quicker than that.....I was 54 when I did Florida.....
so so tempted to come out of retirement to do IMCH again - great event - but decided no.....doing the Oly instead and supporting those doing the main one
when it comes to biking and running, i have zero talent ...in fact, i am so bad at both, potentially I have negative talent. is there such a thing as "negative talent"?
very impressive FB ... you look more like an american football playert than a sub 12 hr Ironman.
aye - I won my group..........over 50/over 220lb........
although one guy went past me on the bike who made me look small - he was humungous!! never saw him on the run though so suspected he DNF'd
it's a great shame that the Clydesdale thing has more or less died a death from an organisation viewpoint as it did give us fat uns a way of ranking ourselves against similar size folks rather than against the skinny whippets.....
nah - Clydesdales don't get any preferential treatment
the US Clydesdale setup used to organise a separate World Champs (oly distance) in Florida but as I said, the whole thing seems to have died a death although some events in the US still have clydesdale classes - Chicago 09 for instance
I assume I am the old guy who came out of retirement.
How am I? The doctor tells me the drugs should start to help some time soon. I hope so I keep having recurring nightmares of some woman sprinting ahead of me shouting "Fandabidozee".
enjoyed your race report .... i laughed out loud at your reply to the young american woman who commented negatively on the weather ... you said it was like a perfect day in Scotland ... sad thing is, that girl is probably still trying to figure out what state in america "scotland" is located.
Re the jacket - I actually got one that said "second place", as he splits it between men's and women's events. So being beaten by a girl was actually good news!

nicely dressed and all smiles?? tee hee
remember I had over three hours to take my stuff back to the hotel, shower, eat, relax and come back to cheer him in
he was only 50 then, so not THAT old
I was showered and changed and managed to run over the line for the second time faster than Bryan - it's amazing what 3 hours rest can do for you
I hope I don't look like Bryan when I cross the line this year then, what with my sporadic training
50 is still young, but his story is a great one ... retired early, must be nice!

you were 54 .... damn even more impressive.
and a little bit of talent

On that basis, I'd have said you're boll**ksed then, FB
Still, the numbers don't lie. Another victory for the Flying Clydesdales.
(don't hit me).

....big, slow, lumbering horses - just like....... well, us pirates really. Some more so than others.
(that's 'us' as in 'we' pirates, not US pirates - the only one of those I'm aware of is a skinny whippet)
I assume I am the old guy who came out of retirement.

I think I would rather face a speeding horse than try to stop FB in full flight.

did you do another IM after that one?
was it a cool jacket?
