I hope not as will be asking for my money back..... as doubtful can make the 14th..... plus screws up my programme. (as can only run every other day, hence why this was picked..... will have to wait and see.
I am sure your programme will cope with a little tweak, besides it will do you good to have a couple of days rest before this one...its tough and I doubt you will run all of it at one pace.
This is a very tough but rewarding run. Perfect prep for Beachy Head, and will be a good LSR if training for Luton. I'll be back for the fourth consecutive time - one of the highlights in the racing calendar. Completely offroad (except for the yellow-brick road), some big hills (the Big W needs to be seen to be believed), and good value (medal and t-shirt).
I just entered this one, the plan is to do the Dublin Marathon on the 29th. Hope this will be a good idea. Sounds pretty tough. I have never run 20m let alone a marathon, i could do with getting my head checked. Grecian you have done it 4 times, how much hillwork do you do for an event like this??
Hi Eddie. I'm fortunate to have plenty of hills where I live, and so I get the benefit from my regular training runs. As I have intimated, this is a tough run, and some of the hills (the Big W part especially) are too steep to run up anyway. IMO, regular hill-work is invaluable for longer-distance events regardless of whether they are hilly or not, but should be an integral part of the training for an event like this.
I think this event as your final LSR will be perfect preparation for Dublin as long as you treat it with respect!
Thanks for the advice Grecian. I plan on treating it with loads of respect. Some hillwork for the weekend then. Think I might be able to convince a colleague to do this run so i'll at least have someone to drag me up the big W. See you there. Many thanks.
ED... I have done this one 4 times too, last as prep for Dublin. I would suggest you walk ALL the hills in the first half (including the Big W) and then hopefully have something in the tank to finish feeling fairly good. That has been my strategy anyway. Be prepared to take a good 20/30mins longer than a road 20miles, and with Dublin VERY soon after, treat it like a training run...no eye balls out!!!
Its a great event and the views are glorious...enjoy them.
I shall not be on the start line this year but shall be recovering from Berlin in prep for Beachy Head...but will be out marshalling/cheering.
Dips, i'm already looking forward to this run, i'll be most definitely taking it easy on the day and think i might have one if not two colleagues to join me. Saying that they are bloody fast. look forward to your cheering.
Did this one last year as a pre NY marathon preparation. It was a little too close to the marathon for my liking and managed to tweak my knee a little on all the hills, however it's an excellent run with great scenery and a good medal at the end (plus a jog shop toothbrush!)
I said I would not do it again because I found it tough going but I am just about to sign up for another slaughtering, this time I am taking a water belt though, the water sops were few and far between, be warned.
All in all, ace run, great course, good crowd, Do IT!
Rob - I did this prior to BH last year and am doing so again this year. It's a great course including the suprise climb at about 18 miles just when you need it!
i'll give this one a crack then. i'm moving to brighton at the weekend too. i did the arundel 10k last week and found that i can not run down hill very fast! people were overtaking me, so i think i might need to work on that too.
yeah 3 weeks taper means that i end up carbo loading too much too!
I did the 7 sisters section of the BH course yesterday evening and was reminded what good preparation the Jog Shop is for this; the Big W is longer and tougher than any of the Sisters...do it and the terrors of the last six miles of BH will be greatly reduced..I promise.
A group of us ran a fake JSJ yesterday. Harder than I remembered, even though we left out the Big W, but rewarding nevertheless. Also attacked by fierce Highland terriers by Rottingdean windmill.
I'll be along for this one again this year! Just hoping I get enough distance and hills under my belt to get round it. Lovely course and I kind of sort of look forward to seeing it all again!
yeah kind of I think. Managed just over three hours this weekend so hopefully I'll be able to walk/crawl/jog round this. Fingers very crossed for OK weather. It was lovely last year! Same again please!
one of the tricky things will be not having a pint during the England semi the night before!!

I must admit I'm tempted - just so I don't have to plan a route for my long run that w/e!
Rob - I prefer a 2 week taper cos three weeks of slowing down drives me nuts.

Got my number today plus rather stern race briefing letter...but like an idiot have left the number in shed...doh.
Was out on the course today at lunch time (10 miles) and it was dry as a bone, blowy and bright sunshine...lovely.
Cheers - HLS
I got my cheque sent back to me....I didn't sign it! Doh!
Race number 676!
Jimbus - about 200.

Back in the shed now - my number is 604.
