Yesterday after a cricket match I was ambling around the field collecting in boundary markers; I was about half way round when I saw a collie type dog near the pavilion watching me with ears pricked up, it then surreptiously made its way in a wide circle around me before silently creeping up close behind as I gradually made my way back. Is this normal or is it because I look like a sheep (or goose)?

Yes, perfectly normal Trendall. They will round up anything
I think fell runner will have lot to say on this him being a shepherd.
I think the dog in question was just getting some practice in. Open area, lone "animal" and i thinks i can move this to somewhere else.
also ask FR when he gets here about sheep following HIM in a race as they followed him in the middle of a race! it was a fell run that went over some of his fields.
Oh good, not just me then.
It did have an impressive outflanking technique. Also, it waited until I had a wall on one side before it made its move.
Oh sheep following him, that is so cute!
We're in Wales you know......
this was the line up for Merthyr 10k
yep they'll round up anything
Mine specialise in ducks when they're not working. They wander down to the lake, find a few ducks and move 'em about a bit until the ducks get fed up and fly off.
They would do people as well if I let them, but I tend not to. Not everyone appreciates it.
It can be a real problem with an untrained collie. They need loads of exercise and stimulation else they can go a bit phsycotic and start to bite,.
Yes I was folowed by a bunch of my own sheep during a race. Looked like the pied piper, until one adventurous ewe tried to follow me through a stile and got stuck....
Nice pic BTW Nam.
I take it you're the one second from the left......
When I was a student, I shared a house with several other people, one of whom had a German Shepherd/Collie cross.
It was never happy unless all of us were gathered together in the same room, and would prowl around the hall and landing until he had 'rounded' everyone up.
If it had learned to bark, 'Who fancies a beer, then?' it would have achieved it's goal a lot quicker.
that looks like they're about to eat them!
i miss my ducks
sooo cute.
my ducks were taller than my dog! but then again, my cat is taller than my dog.
