I see they're doing special B & B rates in November and as you know it's only a mile or so off the A38. Probably just over an hours drive to Pensilva from the pub.
Ok - entry posted and accomodation booked. On par with Snowdonia Marathon in terms of difficulty, the hills may be less daunting but more frequent. Excellent event but not looking forward to the post-race drive home on the Sunday. The pastie should provide some subsistence though.
It's on par with Anglesey in terms of the drive home though!! I still haven't recovered from last weekend, and wouldn't recommend driving c.250 miles without a break after running a windswept marathon!
It's interesting how different people's perspection are with comparing events. I selected Snowdonia as being similar as that's the first thing that came into my head when I completed the Cornish last year. I love both for a number of reasons. The Cornish seems imho to attract the more hardened club runners and can be mentally tough due to the smallish field and limited crowd support (as well as the hilly route). Snowdonia has a higher profile and more glamorous appeal which attracts a larger and more diverse runner, and has a 'bigger' feel to it. Both are definately on the more difficult end of the events spectrum even though both (apart from 1.5 miles of the Snowdon course) are entitely on-road. The marathon calendar would be poorer if either of these were omitted (I'm still annoyed that I will miss Snowdon this year due to the clash with Beachy Head).
grecian - I drove 330 miles home from Anglesey after the race, took over 7 hours as was stuck on the M6 in heavy traffic. It's taken me longer to recover from the drive than the marathon. I'm driving home after Snowdonia too but will have the Sunday at home to recover.
The Cornish is my favourite marathon and Snowdonia is my 2nd
Hippo - I think you'll have to do the Cornish again as I wouldn't even call Anglesey hilly and wouldn't even compare the two
330 miles Shades! I wonder if you were in that same traffic jam as me on the M6 - solid as you joined from the M56! I also took longer to recover from the drive than the marathon. Anglesey's only prolem is it's inaccessibility, but I hope to return next year.
The Cornish is one of my favourites too. The journey home is a real worry as I still remember being stuck on the M25 in a 15 mile tail-back on the homeward approach from last year's event and being in a really bad way due to exhaustion etc. May stay an extra day there in Cornwall, and try and drag a few runners over from the club if possible.
Btw. how's the training going for Lochaber 2008?!!!
PH - I'll have to try and say hello at BHM which still tops my marathon list though.
grecian - yes, I was in that very same traffic jam, so frustrating as had made good time up until that point. Cornish must be a long drive for you if you have to go as far as the M25. Next year for Anglesey I'm going to book a Travelodge about halfway home, quite easy to get a cheap room on a Sunday (£15 or £26), then drive the rest of the way on the Monday. I had to get back for work this year.
have already entered and booked hotel for Lochaber
form hidden away in my filing cabinet - leaping out at me each time I open. I'll see how I feel after the the Devon mara this weekend. If I run well, obviopusly in good form so I'll probably race it, if I run badly, to make myself feel better I'll probaly race it. So looks like I'll be there.
Did love the run last year, and though for around 24 miles ran on my own, didn't feel too mentally tough, found it very zen-like, the peace, the quiet and the views. Much better than someone breathing like a tractor trying to overtake you. The winner I think ran 2:50 with 6 others under sub 3 and compared to a flat marathon I reckon Cornwall is worth around an extra 7-12 minutes.

Hippo
If you do query inclusion in results, please could you also ask on my behalf? I wasn't on them, either.
Hippo - does it?? Haven't found that but I'm not exactly at the clinical, sharp edge of things.
I emailed RO for an entry form.

Hippo - did you use the tiscali email address (on event details). I think her ISP went bust shortly before the race last year.
I'm sure you and K2 are on the results but not on the first version put out on the various websites
Hiya

Hippo - I read in the paper a couple of months ago that the pub had been sold but the good news is that the chef is the new owner!

On par with snowdon? thats ok then as i have the t-shirt for that one.
Is this race all on road? I'm still get the time off work but i will be staying in FAlmouth at the uni.
Shaw - yes, all road. Some folk say this is harder than Snowdonia, some say easier.
Hippo - Anglesey?

well, i did a better time this year at anglesey compared to cornish-and i walked the last 4 miles

and cornish has a nice downhill bit and that flat bit through the valley
hm, i do wonder id anglesey was harder---i dunno

And grecian, i am annoyed too
I really want to do snowdon
