A colleague at work has bought a brand new Peugeot 206, which keeps cutting out on her. It's been back to the Peugeot dealer she bought it from loads of times, and they can't find anything wrong with it.
Yesterday it cut out on the A1M when she was doing 70mph. Luckily the car behind managed to stop in time, but she could have had a serious accident.
Extra scarily, she's found this on the web, which isn't doing much for her peace of mind
The garage she bought it from are being completely unhelpful, and although she's written them a good letter to the effect that it's "not of merchantable quality", they're refusing to either refund her money or replace the car. Apparently all they'll do is refer it up the line to various area managers and put it in for testing by Peugeot, but whether or not they will do anything about it depends on whether or not they can find the cause of the problem, which so far they can't. The implication from the manager of the garage is that she's making it all up and has some weird Munchausens syndrome involving cars, that there's nothing wrong with it and she's deliberately going into their showroom causing a scene.
Understandably she's pretty upset by all this. If she had the money to go to court and sue them, she would, but it's not an option, and presumably the £7,500 she paid for it puts it way out of small claims court territory? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Some info here.
Her contract is with the dealer, not with Peugeot themselves, so they have to put it right. She shouldn't let them fob her off.
As the car is dangerous, she should stop using it, and get in touch with her local trading standards office and tell them the story.
If she has it on finance, tell the dealer she is referring it to the finance company also, as legal owners. The dealer won't want to pee them off.
But if they have put it on an ECU tester and there are no error codes, You need to look at another fault
I had a 307 many years ago. At first service I was informed that there was piston knock and the car would need a new engine. Nothing then happened and so I stuck a note in the window explaining the problem I was having and parked it outside the dealership. Got a 'phone call from the dealership asking me to remove it (it was on a public road with no parking restrictions) and if I didn't then the dealership would not be responsible for the actions of its staff. I refused his kind offer and parked the car there again a couple of days later. My new engine was installed within a week.
Hated the car anyway and would never buy Peugot again.
Thanks everyone, much appreciated.
Groovy, I love your style Remind me never to upset you!
