Dave - wasnt me in the garden centre - I was in A & E at Warrington straight after the race, JPenno Jr (15) decided to have his third visit of the rugby season to A&E. so far he has been knocked out, dislocated and fractured his index finger on his right hand and then yesterday he got injured in a tackle and could not move his kneck, Referee stopped the game and he was ambulanced to A&E.
Thankfully after five hours of xrays and him being bollocked for moving he has been discharged with damaged ligaments in his neck.
Sprog 2 took part in the University Down Hill mountain Bike race at Fort William earlier this year.. When he called in the following week, He was limping, So concerned Mum asks what is up with the ankle... Nothing only a minor sprain, But it makes me limp. The 2 cracked ribs and the cracked collar bone are much more painful ! he's 6ft5 aged 22. But still needs mother around sometimes
Yes it did, think it also scarred him when the Nurse explained to him for the tenth time that the had to stop moving about in case he had done serious damage. She was so kind and subtle (not) words to the effect of do you want to end up in a wheelchair. Whilst i would normally have been equally abrupt with her it did have the effect we had all been trying to achieve for about two hours which was to get him to stop moving about.
Dave the first couple were fine, he is 15 but 6' tall and was on the kids part of A&E, i think that the final nurse had had enough of him moving around and i think they thought he wasnt taking them seriously. I had already given him as strong a warning as i could taking into account the circumstances, His Mum couldnt stay in the room and had to keep going outside for fresh air.
Have just finished work early to come home and check on them. He is ok but very sore and stiff neck resembles frankensteins monster when trying to move
JP - Glad he's ok. My son, now 18, managed to do much the same when playing rugby. He doesn't play anymore but unfortunately he's replaced rugby with beer and woman so long term I'm not sure he's doing the right thing (suppose we've all been there though!!).
How times have changed though. My son hasn't passed his driving test yet, don't think he has any intention of doing so, but his girlfriend has and she has a car. In his mind if he passes he might have to drive and hence not drink! I find i hard to argue with his logic!!
I too went for the bike thing until I got married at 22, then had to go for the sensible car option.
A couple of cycling friends of mine have invited me on a ride in the Peak District on Saturday and for some reason I've agreed to give it a go. They tell me we're only (?) doing 40 miles and its not too hilly!
Where do you do your swim training, what time etc? I do need to bite bullet some time soon so if I'm free (I'll need to check with my better half!) I'd certainly be up for it the following week.

Nurses are never kind or subtle... That is a myth spread by all the "Doctor Films".
Just don't tell my Sprog (Nurse Spartan)
