Isn't 2 weeks before IM Nice too close? I was hoping this was going to be a weekend earlier.
I have been working on a training plan based on this book that a friend bought me & it suggests a half 4 weeks out. The only other race I can find that is anywhere near the date is the The Beaulieu Middle Distance Triathlon which I think is new for next year.
NM - I wouldn't be too close for me but it might be too close for a few. Two weeks before IMA my session was a 4hr bike + 1 hr run (cf <2.5hr +1:40 Bala would take). In general I would say most will have done enough training to be able to recover from Bala two weeks out.
There's a middle distance tri in Cornwall (Rick Rescorla) in late May.
8th June - that's a week later and will be out of half term territory for Shiraz... will have to see if she's allowed out to play... somehow I expect I will be there...
do it at ironman pace and it's a perfect wind down.
ee i remember back in '04, just after the war it was. we didn't have tri suits, but we wore onions on our belts as that was the state of sports science at the time. anyway, i did the vit, as it was then known, on my penny farthing at ironman pace, and then a short number of weeks later i did ironman florida at (vit x 2) + 3 minutes. i'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere.
Two weeks before Nice is closeish but as Candy says if you take it easy and treat it as a very easy training session I dont think Bala would present to much of a problem.
I'm seriously wondering if I can justify an £85 easy training session.
I wish it was a week earlier too. Maybe its really not a good idea for those of us who are debuting at Nice - it would suck to do all that training and stuff it up on an inconsequential* half.
*Not that £6000 is inconsequential, but then none of us actually have a shot at that do we?!
After last year's not exactly successful attempt at the swim, punture repairing for stranded athletes and general chatting on the run I wanted to give this one a good go so will wait until next year

It's not necessary to race Bala at HIM pace - instead you could go at IM pace and check your nutrition/fluid strategies exactly.
I think it is a bit close for me. Now can I be trusted to ease back a bit on a race ??
Ah well less cash for the bike............

Ooh you b*gger. I've only had p*nctures in two out of the last three tris I've done.
Last time I had one out on the road and not racing was June 2006 - oh damn - I've just cursed myself havent I ?
