I think the GP is referring to some sort of tissue/vascular damage that r/t will bring on so as the r/t will be into the brain, the chance of some blood pressure build up due to heavy exercise causing vascular damage leading to stroke may be correct but the specialists at the treatment centre should put you right...

when I had my r/t (neck) I carried on training but eventually had to stop as the skin broke down on my neck (started by a helmet strap rubbing on a wet bike ride)- it wasn't painful per se (bar some tightness) but pretty unsightly. that was the collateral damage that I had to accept as part of the treatment

r/t will affect surrounding tissues as the x-rays will go through the tumour site and out the other side - I went partially bald on the back of my head although treatment was on the front of my neck!

keep the PMA going Douglas and keep as fit as possible as this will help you I'm sure

    fingers crossed for you

Another (medical) lurker here- Douglas- if the Doc says not to run, and that's what you really want to do, check, and double check their advice, I know most doctors know very little about excercise physiology , and sports medicine, it would be awful to cut back on your running just on a casual word from a new specialist who doesn't know you well. I'm a fairly new runner, but I have some idea how frustrating it is to be prevented from running by mere physical frailty.

Good luck with all your treatment

I'm definitely in the system now.

I saw the Macmillan nurse last week and the Community Care nurse today. These visits don't mean I'm I'm going to snuff it tomorrow as the radiotherapy will probably work.

I'm having difficulty in typing now and keep losing my balance.

    More later.

You can have a few of my gray cells too - i'm sure if we all gave you some, you'd be fine ( if  a little odd)

    It's quite a laugh.imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

I'm now registered disabled through the Community Care nurse yet in 3 weeks time I'll be doing 5 mile runs. I get nearly free taxis in London.imageimageimageimageimage

    Now off to play bridge.

I hope the radiotherapy shrinks the little buggers Douglas and you get the balance and control/sensation back

Great idea Mellitus - Perhaps we should test posters for IQ then DJ can select gray matter donors ?

    Morning

    hang on in there doug

my nrain cells are pickled in gin

    ahem

I agree 100% with what Tricalitt says, its safer for the docs to tell you not to run

Id say if you are going to run, cos of the fits, that you hould do so in a safe environment though

like a gym and treadmill situation

and suprisingly not very many people do.  Someone I work with was concerned that nobody in his office would know what to do, so got some handy cards to hand out (and to have on him) to tell people what to do.

Two weeks ago, I was running on the treadmill in the gym.  Yesterday, the professionals were talking about care in the community.  This somewhat alarmed me but then after consultation with friends I realised that this is a temorary glitch.  However, I think my chances of a 3.15 marathon have been severely curtailed by lack of training time.   It is an interesting experience to go in two weeks from a lean and mean able bodied 55 year old to a gibbering 80 year old.  However, the process is reversible by radiotherapy.  As there are no permanent side effects of radiotherapy (apart from glowing in the dark), my spirits remain undimmed imageimageimageimage

     More tomorrow.

Hope radiotherapy bout 2 went well and you are now loaded with anti-nausea pills so you can enjoy a good weekend recovery before more radio next week.

Your undimmed spirit is truly inspirational

     Love G x

Hi Douglas I saw this poem & thought it sums up your extremely positive attitude-If you think you are beaten, you are.If you think you dare not, you don’t.If you like to win, but you think you can’t, it’s almost certain you won’t.If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost. For out of the world we find, success begins with a fellows will,It’s all in the state of mind.If you think you are outclassed, you are,You’ve got to think high to rise,You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man,But soon or late the man who wins is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!I'm looking forward to going to the 2012 Olympics with you. See you soon J.

    Hi folks,

Radio 1 was unbelievably awful ....................................so bad that I thought of refusing radios 2-5. In fact it was a combination of high first dose, no anti-nausea pills and bad luck (most people don't suffer nausea at my dose).

However dose 2 (with anti-nausea pills) was fine.

More later as I'm finding it extremely difficult to type.

I'm sooooo pleased to hear that radio 2 was better. Hope that you get a lovely weekend. xx

Hi Douglas - grim experience of radio image

The tumours in the brain might be adding to the nausea ?  Maybe that will ease as radio shrinks them ?

Hope that you are enjoying a sunny weekend.   You need a secretary....get that Marge to offer as your PA image

I'm going to ask for pearls of wisdom from any radiographers lurking out  there.

I've noticed a steady decrease in motor skills over the last week or so. I needed help climbing up the stairs this evening.

The radiographers told me that it was important to drink one and half litres of water a day.

Today I got rather dehydrated. On drinking my ration of water this evening, I noticed a dramatic increase in performance.

    Have I compromised my  treatment?

  • Options

    no, you havent

    darling

this is the fcking cancer doing this

Hope the radio starts to work soon
