once upon a time there was a man called Douglas Johnstone, he did a lot of interesting things and met a lot of interesting people. He liked to pepper his postings with these....He was a runner and when he hit some problems he came to this forum and asked some questions like so many people do. If you want to know more you'll have to read the thread.........
Douglas sadly is no longer with us but many many people enjoyed getting to know him on this forum and some of his friends are running a marathon in his honour and to raise money for a charity Douglas was happy to support.
I have been trying to bounce this back to the top of the forums so that the many people who "met" him on here realise that his friends are doing this and have the opportunity to wish them well, or to sponsor them, or just be glad that they are doing it !
Thanks to everyone who has supported the Rome marathon trip for Douglas - I know that those of you who followed Douglas' story on this blog have been particularly generous. We have raised £1000 so far. We are running on Sunday and hoping for a sunny cool day as forecast. Good luck to everyone running at the weekend wherever you are.
Good luck to all the Rome runners, I'm out of action at the moment - but so unexciting - just a bad corn ! Will be running again soon, and will also add my bit to the Rome kitty. (toute de suite).
I'm planning a small tribute from Douglas's Army friends - and others, at the ASICS British 10k (London) on July 12th. Any bloggers who plan to run that day - or might think about it - lets liaise. A few years ago we had Douglas, me and 5 others running for the Army Benevolent Fund. It's generlly a great party afterwards too - weather permitting. Bucks Fizz and picnic in the park !!
I hope things go well this weekend for all you runners.......a marathon is about 20 miles more than i could manage so take my hat off to you all . Have a wonderful day, you deserve to!
I was hoping to put some pictures up here of the Rome trip to show you all but I can't work out how to transfer a picture from JPeg format to here. Any suggestions? We had an excellent weekend and everyone who started finished with a fair few PBs including my own. Now I'm ready for the next one........
Well done to you all, looking forward to hearing more about the day, I see the total is looking very good on the fundraising site. A fantastic effort by all of you
Well done the Rome lot - greatly look forward to photos. Dougal would have loved to have run and tried to get a new PB.
I'm off for a modest 10 k , (trail. Alice Holt Forest nr Farnham) this Sat. First time out competitively for ages - ah well, at 5 years older than Dougal was - anything is a blessing.
to Gina, Katrina, Ed and all who organised a wonderful tribute on Tuesday.
Wow - a service with a difference. This week's memorial service to Douglas at the Guards Chapel was a wonderful occasion. Thanks to all who had any hand in planning this. People from every facet of his varied life, memories shared, new things learnt about him, a chance to catch up with old friends etc.
Craig - we'll all think of him in future every race !

Anyone up for London ASICS 10k in July -
Message from Douglas' office,
Thanks to everyone for the fantastic fund raising on Douglas' behalf, I have been keeping the family upto date.
Looking forward to seeing some photos of the Rome runners - maybe when we meet at Doug's memorial in London 23rd June?
The office is so dull without him, but luckily we have lots of happy memories.
Regards to you all, Katrina (Johnstone Family P.A.)
