I suppose you have 2 choices. One would be to start at 8:00 miling, nothing ventured nothing gained etc. and hang on for as long as you can. You might surprise yourself. Or you might burn out and have a hideous last couple of miles.
The other would be to start at a more comfortable rate and if this feels OK try and get faster as the race goes on. This has the added advantage of allowing you to catch runners ahead which is always good fun.
Is there any time to do a trial outside? Weather's lovely in London today, not sure about Milton Keynes.
I'll be taking the first mile v. easy to see how I feel and what pace I manage. I suspect I will be dead last for the first mile and will then spend the rest of the race trying to reel people in.
I don't think you have to worry too much, bootsie. I think they just take the marshalls off after 2 hours and start closing down the finish but they'll still be people around.
aviator that is so cruel!!!!! i haven't managed 10 miles yet but 9.72 took me up to the two hours.. was pretty undulating though and mucky so this might be easier.. to get parking what time do i need to be up there at?
If time gets tight, you can always go straight to the start without picking up the chip. True, you wouldn't get an "official" time, but so what. I'm sure that you've got a watch anyway.
It really is a nice flat course, not ran te exact course, but I run around the roads nearby and they are not hills around.
Tim - go for it - that's my plan anyway - Think ten seven minute milers might be a little bit to much (did 1.36 HM in Dec) but I am going to go for it and just hope I can hang on. Did my last proper prep today 9 miles in 68 mins steadyish with a quick finish.
Hi guys, haven't done this one before and was looking forward to it until the weather forecast changed! My question is - trail shoes or normal road shoes? Thanks for any advice - see you all there!
Normal shoes should be OK. The off-road bits are OK and there are no cross-country style bits.
Lovely weather - at least it's not going to be freezing!
Did my first club run last night for over 4 months and found it so hard. Joined the shortest run and foolishly thought they'd be other slow people that I could tag along with. They'd obviously all decided to stay at home as I got dropped off the back of the pack within 3 minutes and ran the whole thing on my own. Slightly demoralising!
Thanks for the tip Little Nemo - not knowing the course I was finding it hard to decide. I'm out with my club tonight for a six miler (hopefully) and the weather promises to be a trial run for Sunday!
The old railway line route is a fairly firm trall and most of this is road. I find trail shoes can be quite slippy on wet tarmac so any benefit o nthe trail bit will be more than offset on the roads.
Am looking for 1:20, indded just under, but came back from training yesterday with a stiff left calf and a bit worried now.

Thought I recognised the name!

I'm favouring the 'hang on' option. Starting slower would mean that I'd need to be running the closing laps very quickly. Not fit enough for that.
I'm sure you'll be fine bootsie......
At least it's an early start so you won't have to worry about it getting dark!

Great minds think alike!

Lovely bit of rain to add to the fun of a good january run out.
Not sure on pace yet but tempted to go all out for a seventy minute run and hope to hang on. But that may be a tad ambitious at this stage.
Parking looks fun on day
I think it's time for a list!
