  • Where are you marshalling Cinders?  I'll say hi as I pass..........

  • Cinders it will be a coarse description of the route when I finish.

2b You can easily do two halves a week apart, I am certainly going to. I will be doing the Lydd Half next Sunday after doing the 20 this Sunday and it is easily do-able. Think of it as a marathon in two halves with a week between them, no bother. I love the Canterbury Half and unlike JFDI I much prefer it to Dover, but as I have said on here before I have a "soft" spot for it as it was my first ever serious race. This will be my 5th year in a row.

  • Looking at the Grand Prix calendar I  am not sure if I am going to be able to make six. I am away while Paddock Wood is on. Pity, that's a nice race with good PB potential. I don't fancy spending £18 to traipse up to Bluewater for an 08.30 start, what kind of god-forsaken time is that to start a short race! It also might clash with the Southend Half which I want to do. I won't be running the Thanet Marathon and Maidstone have not got a date yet, but it will probably clash with the Great South. So that leaves me more or less a Hobsons Choice of the races still to come this year. Decisions, decisions.

I'm at the roundabout on Ramsgate Road near Wellesley House School TBSIAF image
  • Yeah I know it Cinders.  If i'm not panting too hard I'll say hi.  image
  • Joining in the celeb top trumps a touch late but ive been busy.

Played Rugby in the same team as Peter Howitt (original joee from Bread)  Also in same team as Mick the munch Skinner.  Although for some strange reason Sharon's photos of that match dont seem to include me image

    Sold MR E Sheringham's Mercedes SL500

  • Can I claim overtaking Maggie Philbin looking a bit worse for wear one marathon? And sitting next to Alistair Stewart of the news, in a coffee place at Waterloo Station!

The £50 voucher would go some way to the new running shoes you'll need after training for 6 GP races! I'm hoping to clock up at least 6 - I too like Canterbury, but haven't run Dover, we're back from holiday the day before Paddock Wood, (so that coudl be tight!) Bluewater would be only way I could get the missus to come with me, with the promise of shopping after, Maidstone now has a date (17th October). Dulwich Park is the only definite no-no for me, unless there is another Dulwich of which I'm not aware!

Cinders, that is about as close to my house as we get - if I'm feeling rough I could always slope in!

  • Can I join in the celeb top trumps?

I met and chatted with Sir Paul McCartney and Linda.  Very small hands and very limp hand shake.

Met Jose Mourinho in a hotel in London and spoke with him in detail with regard to Chelsea.  Really lovely man who made time for everyone.

I won a Chelsea FC competition and spent the entire day behind the scenes with the press and tv following which I interviewed Gianfranco Zola.  Met most of the players and had a drink with them in the players bar.  It was a great day if you happen to like Chelsea.

I was working for Waitrose (in Ramsgate) when Only Fools and Horses made "Jolly Boys Outing".  Met both Del and Rodney....David Jason was really friendly (Lyndhurst WASN'T!)  He was right up his own a*se!

  • oh....and like JFDI I was also handed a Lucozade bottle from Johnny Wilkinson in the London Marathon 2005.

Shame we weren't in Sandwich this week, seems Jenson Button, JLS and possibly Pamela Anderson were down their filming a new ad.

I also was watching some karting at Silverstone and saw Nicholas Parsons making a hash job of it!

Edited.  Depends of course if you're into either Button, JLS or Pammie! image

  • I think That Boy is definitely this week's top trumps champion. My boss once put my name down for an invite to one of the Buck House garden parties, pity that one hadn't come off!
  • Ed/CB.....Like you and most others....trying to get the 6 GP races in is going to be a bit of a battle, but worth a try. A new pair of shoes will definatley be required by then! I missed Dartford due to kids dance exams. Thanet 20 will count as one but then can't do Paddock Wood as will be on taper for Brighton the weekend after. Canterbury Half will be No2. Bluewater, while pricey and very early image has had the family's blessing with promises of breakfast and shopping to follow so will probably do. Awaiting a date on Mt Ephraim but would like to do that as No4. Thanet Marathon will probably be 5....depending on how I feel after Brighton?? Dulwich just doesn't appeal to me and is a bit far. Maidstone HM is possibly do-able but is the week after I plan a HM PB attempt at Great Eastern again.........otherwise it's the Thanet 10 to make up the 6. So there's not much room to allow for injury or any future family plans which may complicate decisions.
  • I can't believe all this nonsense about running, that is just something that we do between stalking celebrities!!!! I will be marshalling on Sunday, but couldn't give a damn about you runners, I will be out there looking for Timothy Spall or Brenda Blethyn, our local superstars. If it comes down to a choice between giving you people a jelly baby or getting a truly important person's autograph, you can forget my support image
  • CF, not forgetting Trevor from Trevor & Simon......

  • Trevor and Simon? You might have to remind me?????????????
  • saturday morning TV in the early 90s -  a tad after my time, but the missus was a huge fan!

    Morning Thanet fans image

Just looking at XC weather and it say 14-17mph winds but sunny, so you may need some suncream. You can get sunburn in March you know, my brother did at Silverstone years ago.

Ed - are you running the Thanet 20, if so good luck to you.

Cliff face - hope you get to spot the a celebrityimage

CB - how are you? You are one of my best memories of my first London marathon you know.

  • CindersCinders ✭✭✭

At last someone else who remembers Trevor and Simon!  Swing your pants with Trev and Simon!  Saw them at Watford Gap services.

Morning Tracey.   Hope I don't get sunburnt next week at Silverstone!

  • Tracey GTracey G ✭✭✭
Cinders - It  was funny it was freezing cold and sunny. We were drink soup to keep warm but my brother has not much hair on his head bless and got burnt and sunstroke.
  • Tracey I am fine and running tomorrow. I went out for a very short trot this morning and that east/west wind was vicious when runnning into it. Fortunately the route tomorrow is mainly north/south so should not be so much of a problem, but I reckon it will be very cold with the wind chill factor, a day for layers I reckon.
  • Hi Tracey, yes I am running tomorrow - my longest run for a decade! I popped out for an easy run yesterday lunchtime, but been dragged around the shops all morning, so now looking forward to a nice easy afternoon.

Cinders, I'll remember to say hi at Wellesley house!

  • One more for the top trumps game:

Did I mention going to Buck House when my dad was given a gong in the 1992 Birthday Honours list?

    I am almost embarrasssed ...

  • OMG - just back from signing the course - it is FREEZING and that wind is evil!!!!

Ramsgate Harbour is a bit of a mare - TDC have dug up in front of the casino - when John C asked one of the workmen about it he was told "not my problem its not my road!!"

To all TRACCies have a great race tomorrowimage

  • I can confirm that, it was freezing when I was out this morning. I am considering wearing gloves tomorrow.
  • I was on a train in the New Forest when I was 7 and saw Jack Hargreaves, we asked for, and got, his autograph.
I also got Lynn Davies' autograph at an athletic meet in 1970!!!
For those of you under the age of 100, you will need to Google them!!!

'Out of town, with a white fluffy cloud in a cluster, hanging in the breeze, to dryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!'
  • Well done for your hard work today JFDI, I was a little disturbed at you commenting on my son's legs though image
Have a fab run tomorrow all you 20 milers! image
  • CB - please can you wear a bit more than just gloves!image

LOL CF - Derek has just phoned me - he and Simon Burton are just about done and dusted with preparations.

Now for a hot bath to try and warm up image

  • CindersCinders ✭✭✭

Cripes, only wearing gloves could lead to being rather frosty!!!

Well done JFDI on signing the course.  Boo to the workmen, not very helpful.

Weather chap on the radio says minus 4 overnight!

  • ran tomorrows course today, not sure why i just didnt enter the 20 and at least i would have got a medal for my efforts. The nice thing was that i managed not to go to quickly finishing in 2 hrs 55 mins, the bad thing was the freezing headwind from the nature reserve all the way to North Foreland.

Well done John Cooper and crew for all their hard efforts
  • CF- Jack Hargreaves, brings back happy memories, me and my dad watched that all the time (both keen fisherman). A few years ago i brought my dad a complete box set of his programmes.
