I have a number...and a place to stay....still not quite convinced I'm going to actually run it though! Off for mega run-walk this weekend to see how the old pins are holding up!
My old Thanet 20 t-shirt is getting a bit ragged so the thought of a new one might inspire me a bit!
It's funny really becasue this run is on my usual training route but, becasue of its beauty, it is my favourite run. No two days are ever the same in terms of wind, sea and sky. However, as a proud Ramsgatonian don't expect too much of the 'support'. Marshalls aside, who are fantastic, the people of Ramsgate will be indifferent at best. It always shocks me how few people on the route even acknowledge that there is something happening.
i'm wondering if a free bar in the harbour might raise the race's profile somewhat and get the usually disinterested ramsgatorians cheering from the sidelines
I seem to remember being taunted by the smell of food on the way back last time...mind you I was off my head on day nurse so might have been hallucinating!
Fond memories of a couple of years ago down by the harbour seeing a couple of the local young chavs eating crisps from industrial size bags and generally being bemused by all the runners.
Remember running past a cafe down there that was playing Easy by Lionel Richie, not exactly how I was feeling at the time!
I love running past the cafe culture on the seafront because I know that within w few minutes of passing them I will be enjoying a few beers of my own. In the case of the 20 I might have to wait a little longer, but my goodness the beer tastes good knowing that you have earned it! Sir C de C, if the wind is in the wrong direction the £2 may come in useful for hand warmers!
Mava - there are a couple of short sharp climbs at Louisa Gap, Stone Bay, oh and the chine on the way back and a couple of longish shallow climbs. The scenery though will more than make up for it. The daffodils should be stunning by the Viking Ship - we ran that part of the route today in the sunshine and it was glorious.
Cheers Current Mrs F. More want to compare it to the training runs I do so I can plan. I train on a hilly route and I'm praying that this race won't be so hilly.
Mava, as the gorgeous Mrs F said (am I forgiven yet?), the course is largely flat with a few short, sharp inclines. Most of these slopes lead form the seafront up to the cliff top so you will se that they aren't too difficult. Otherwise a terrific course, just remember to put a few pennies in your pocket in order to buy an ice cream, beer, coffee, milk shake, whatever is your pleasure!
I agree with MrsF, the daffs should be glorious by the time of the race and it looked like there were several million of them, so it should be quite a sight. I am really looking forward to it, bring it on!
I remember the chine at around the 17 mile mark. I swore all of the way up last time. There was no else around to offend at the time, so it worked for me!
Not from me you didn't; I had been chasing a clubmate for the first 12.5 miles, ran with her to the bottom of the chine, and then used it to open up a 100 metre lead. One request for this year, though - please move the 16 mile marker to where it really belongs!
Andy I must confess to having had a tourettes moment in your presence last year. Now why would anyone choose to spend two years on the the trot at this marshalling point if there wasn't a little bit of the sadist in them? And i thought that all marshalls were nice caring people!!!
Let's just say I take it as a personal challenge to encourage and motivate everyone at that particularly nasty bit of the course !! After coming unstuck there myself a couple of years ago I know how everyone is feeling.
Plus I will be laden with Jellybabies as well which should help !

Any ideas as to why this is?
When I did this race back in 2006 someone down Ramsgate seafront asked me if we were doing the London Marathon.
I would love to think she was joking.....

afternoon all. I'm doing this for the first time this year.
Has anyone mapped the route on MapMyRun? I'd be interested to see the elevation profile for the course.
Ta.
