Popsider, I love cycling outdors, way way better. But I got the turbo for when I'm looking after the kids and I can't get outdoors!
I definitely wnat to get on it today but I better take my bike into the bike shop. It looks like there's something up with the rim, plus the tension seems all wrong. When it's sorted I'll get on the turbo. (I hope!)
i-magic is just a posh turbo that you plug into a TV or computer or something so it looks like you are racing other riders - never used one but they do look fun. Know what you mean about the kids - I used to use mine sometimes when they were in bed. They are very boring and I don't know how people can do 2-3 hour sessions on them - or why they'd want to - but if you get into the habit of using them they aren't too bad, trouble is I'm out of the habit.
Pops has got it about right. It plugs into a computer and you race in a virtual world where the resistance changes when the gradient changes and you race against yourself (ie previous time) or other people. Can be on road courses, MTB or velodrome, and there are a few more spangly things too.
Having said that, even i-magic gets boring after a year or so, and so I'm not resortign to the godfather for epic training rides. Sadly it's just too cold at the moment (ice on the roads by me), and I can't risk faling off.
The tyres are all fine now.....there really is no excuse now not to get on it tonight!!!
The i-magic sounds good at least for some type of entertainment. I was going to start tonight with the radio on in the background, if that doesn't help I need to figure out a way to read and cycle!!!
Clothes horse...more like kids play thing!!! Youngest came upstairs with oil covered hands and feet this morning, nice!
I am using it as an emergency, kids are on holiday now and with no childcare it's my only means!!! I'm using KK's advice and have come up with a list of DVD's I've been meaning to watch.
I really don't want to give up after only another 2 more sessions....eeek!
AL, I find that even with a film to watch I can only get to about 30 minutes before boredom sets in. The only thing that keeps me working are Spinerval DVDs. They're training sessions............... a bit like a spin class.
I had visions of doing an hour at a time, haha! I watch every minute go by very s l o w l y. And even when I think it's been ages, it's only about 2-3 minutes!!!!

LOL @ Popsider.
No, the sooner she tries the sooner she'll discover that she needs to buy an i-magic...
(only kidding).
((Sort of)).
What's an i-magic??

I did it....yayyyy!
G*d it's mind numbingly boring but I feel so much better for it, even if it wasn't for very long.
The 'par' is for 2 more sessions then it becomes a clothes horse.
Seriously, you need to sit down and plan some sessions and write them into your diary, otherwise it's so easy to just say 'nah, CBA'.
As D74 says. Having a plan to follow during the turbo session makes it much more bearable and also gives you some targets to aim towards.
(I'd still only recommend the infernal contraption for dire emergencies though)
