Podiatry Plus in Sale, Manchester

I have had a bit of a saga with orthotics - current version seems to be making achilles/peroneal tendon worse and I have rather lost faith in the podiatrist (who call himself a biomechanist - is there such a profession?) . Fellow runner has recommended Podiatry Plus in Sale - but she only had her corns sorted, not orthotics or gait analysis. Anyone tried them?

  • sluggie...i know it's not manchester but I saw a guy in Liverpool who was great, very reasonable prices, videos you running on his treadmill, has all the gear to make them there and then if you want...works at the hospital and does this as an extra...if you want details let me know (i got the train from warrington to l'pool parkway) and he picked me up from the station and dropped me back)
  • Hi I've not been to pod splus but I would whole heartedly recommend my podiatrist in Altrincham.  I have orthotics of her and gait analysis and the other pod there works with the FLM.  Can't thank them enough, they are lovely,

Go and see Rachael at http://www.instepfootcare.co.uk/

  • Thanks Katy - I will try for nearer as time is a bit of an issue for me at the moment, but I could well be back to you in future
  • I had some orthrotics made to cure shin splints (compartment syndrome) by Axis Podiatry. The woman, Lyndsey seemed very professional and the orthrotics have a lifetime guarantee too. I had a full biomechanical assessment and gait analysis done using a pressure pad mat to see where I put the most pressure during walking runing, then the orthrotics were custom made from the results. Needless to say, my shin is fine now.

They cost £300 but seems worth it in the end after 3+ years of on/off running image

  • Hi I am a podiatrist as well as a runner 'hence my runnersworld name' and can confirm that it is worth spending that bit extra on a podiatrist who not only has experience of running and injuries but also has specialised in that area of the profession as they don't always have the required level of knowledge straight out of university. Thanks for the comments marklboro, its Lindsay here.... glad to here you are doing well with your orthotics.
  • Missed this thread earlier, but Steve Lyons works out of the centre of Manchester, as well as the Alex I think.  Sorted me out a treat a few years ago and I'll be going back for new ones once I get running again.
