Hi... Hope all are well & nearly ready to rumble.

I managed a 2.5hr run off-road on Sunday (god knows how far.....) and felt quite good after. Not as good as 2.5hours on the tarmac but no surprise there i guess.

treated myself to a Inov-8 12 backpack a few days ago and have done a couple of runs this week with it attached. A new sensation for me. Liked it a little loose for comfort but of course if moves around a fair bit when slackened off. Just a case of getting used to it I guess. I've never run with anything on my bsck b4.

I'll look to be at registration area for 07:40ish on Sat. Prob be wearing the Inov-8 and just my long sleeve blue top & black ronhill bottoms. Waterproofs still in Inov-8 (lets hope they stay there!). Unless I pluck up the courage to have a shave I'll be the bearded/scruffy one!

     See you then...

     Looking forward to it....

    Mark.....

  • excellent, we can all be the inov8 gang! i will walk up to anyone with an inov8 pack and say hi, are you from RW! mapped out the route last night on the map. how come it happens to fall right in the centre of the OS map and go across the fold in the page. grrr. looks lovely though, with the only tricky bit I think being across the moors. started entering coordinates into garmin, but then my head started swimming with numbers so i stopped.

i like the inov8 pack anmd had to play around a bit toget it to fit right, it keeps your back lovely and warm but it did cause conflicts and rub with my sports bra..i guess most of you guys dont have to worry about that though image

one thing I find helps, is to split the route into paragraphs according to checkpoints, make the font big, print it out and then cut into blocks of paper according to checkpoint, so you only have to worry about having one piece of info in your hand at a time. my housemate thinks i am nuts.

    List time!

  • Hi all,

Not long to go now!  I too planned out the route last night.  You're right Clairster about the map - I think there is going to be a lot of folding and unfolding of maps on the way round!

I'll look out for you all at registration.  I'm number 304, and I'll most likely be wearing black running tights, blue Skinfit jacket, and the ubiquitous Inov8 pack and Roclites.

We might be lucky with the weather on Saturday - the BBC website says that Saturday will cloudy with sunny spells, but still windy.

    So, I've updated the list:

freddy-bear - number 304, and I'll most likely be wearing black running tights, blue Skinfit jacket or maybe my Valley Striders vest if its warm enough, and the ubiquitous Inov8 pack and Roclites.

  • Hi Everyone

My race number is 84. I too will be wearing an Inov8 pack, Roclite 320's, black skinny (my wife says girly) tights, Nike running beanie hat & am not sure as to what top to wear as yet. I may nip to The Complete Runner & treat myself to a new windproof top, but don't tell my wife !

I did my last big run before the TT on Sunday. 16 miles, very steady over 2 hours & fifty mins. It was extremely windy which slowed me down considerably. I hope this won't be too slow for everybody ??

    Cheers ! image

  • Sounds fine Jez, any effort I've done in 20+ mile range has been slower than that.

I've tried to put some details down below but a bit vague, with work and other things I've been swimming upstream the last week or so.

euph - Number...ummmmm, wearing....umm (not looked at forecast). Probably shorts unless its below 0, probably red gore top and a hydration pack (not an Inov8), buff headband/scarfy thing.

Good advice on cutting the route up Clairster, must try, I'm pretty sure I'll find an hour to upload co-ords as a backup.

I suggest we all find Jez as he know's his number image

  • oooh cunning plan, will try and pin a number to my backpack

Freddy Bea, Jez and anyone else. A kind member of the FRA forums emailed me a colour map with the route marked out on it, would you like me to mail you it or print out some extra copies and bring them along?

  • Ooh, yes please, bring me along a copy of that map Clairster - Thanks!!
  • Clairster - The map sounds spot on. I've got an OS map but if there's something avail ready marked up that'll be great. Email or a copy on the day is equally as fine. I'll leave it to you to decide.

     Thanks for that!!!

    Mark....

  • anyone who wants to grab a copy of the map off me, please mail claire.wilson@gmail.com. I cant send attachments via the email member links on this site.

remember to download the map and print it as size to fit opf page, i didnt and got home wondering why I only had about 1/3rd of the route!

not long to go, hurrah image

  • Does anyone know if its compulsory to carry waterproof trousers?  I've just looked at the info I was sent, and it says we should carry waterproofs, but is that just a jacket?  I don't actually own any, so I might have to go and buy some tomorrow lunchtime if necessary.

     Now I'm off for a 10 miler.

  • Clairster

The map sounds great & will be kindly received ! The more help the better.....cheers. I'll e-mail you.

Freddy Bear, surely waterproof trousers will not be rquired ? I'm not bringing any anyway !

  • Hi all - sorry for absence, been a mega busy week - and absolutely no running until tonight, trying to sort my glute problem.  Felt OK if not perfect on easy 3 miler tonight so think will be alright Sat - otherwise will just have to grimace and call it character building...

I have waterproof trousers but not smallest / lightest ones so don't aim to carry - will put in car in case they insist when I get there.

Clairster - have emailed for map, hope that's OK thanks.

wharfedale plodder - 24 - Skyrac yellow and gold vest will be most obvious bit, also north face pack and flappy plastic map holder.  Girly tights as well.

NB - will not be wearing my innov8's - hope I can still be a member of the club!  Think too much hard surface for mudclaws so will stick to my faithful Mizuno trail shoes and hope there aren't too many really muddy sections (famous last words - along with my professed map reading ability , you can really get at me when I lead you the wrong way down a really boggy bit...)

  • woohoo nearly saturday image

WP - of course you can still be in the club...the rebel faction! I think mudclaws would be way too harsh for a longer distance mixed terrain run like this

i have spare copies of the map. someone with more time and skills than me maybe able to paste themtogether a bit better image

i have NO waterproof trousers image

  • Last minute decision to do tomorrow.  Looking forward to it, don't mind the forecasted high winds, just hope it stays dry.

Clairster- Just mailed you regarding map.

  • Matt The Brum

Welcome aboard Team Inov8 ! See you all tomorrow. I will now be wearing a bright orange windproof top, miss me if you can ! I've burned the receipt, so my wife will never know. I'll say I won it.

Don't forget to set your alarm clocks.................................

    Jez

  • What time does this start again?

......say what?.......8am.....GROANNNNimageimage WHY DO I DO THESE THINGS!!

Just kidding, preparing for an early night as I'll have to be up at about 5.

  • Will be in some well worn Roclite 315s
  • DE - me too. My housemate was looking very bemused yesterday with my map and coordinates and then tales of a ridiculously early start. Lifting Jill so hopefully be there for 7.30am..but this is where it could all go wrong, usually Jill lifts me and is good at time keeping, i on the other hand, am appalling! and always running late! ARRGGGHHH

hiya MTB - mail sent image

jez - ooh orange, should be hard to miss image

  • Claire

The orange will match my eyes perfectly.

Guys, I've just re-read the info I was sent by the race organiser & it says to report to "Walk HQ" between 6.30 & 7.30 a.m. Claire, you may wish to re-set your alarm clock ! I'm sure this is so they don't get a mass influx in the last half an hour & think it highly unlikely that they'd turn anybody away. But, better to be safe etc. etc !!

Ayway, go to go & rest my feet..................image

  • hmmm..we'll see. what I like about these events is that the start isnt all that hectic and if you set off a few mins late, it really doesnt matter (erm, euph, HMT, still running down road to start after the official start image)

I will try my best, but have been up at 6am all week for work and up at 5am on monday to fly back so my body is starting to protest somewhat!! I will lay everything out tonight image and drive like a mad person no doubt on sat am...arggghhh late is a frequent state of mine!

  • Claire

Just printed out the maps, thank's again. Much handier than my giant map !

  • Looks like we might have rain tomorrow image.  And maybe some wind.

See you all bright and early tomorrow!  I think I'll aim to arrive at around 7.15 (I'm always 15 minutes late so it'll be more like 7.30).  The map is brill - thanks Clairster image

Sat forecast from met office - wind speed, gust speed and visibility.  Just been out for a 14 m cycle - OH was running but I was saving my legs for tomorrow, I've got to say that wind is very blustery and cold and the rain is very wet !  This wind looks similar for direction and speed so suggest it could feel quite cold tomorrow.  The pics you can't see are white clouds with a bit of sun peeking out and one raindrop at 0900 so hopefully quite pleasant and a load better than now....

    Thanks for map C.

    See you all tomorrow !

  • Loks different than when I pasted, but I think you can get the idea image
  • Hi and good luck to all braving the cold, wind and rain tomorrow. I'm doing it alone but will hopefully get chatting to some of you along the way. Not sure I'll run it all but aim to finish in under 5 hours. Did the route a few weeks ago on a nice frosty day, the scenery was beautiful, its a lovely route...on a nice day anyway! I think it will be very muddy in parts tomorrow. Claire, don't worry about the bit across the moor, there is a very clear track to follow, I found navigation very easy for the whole route, didnt need to use the map much, the description route is very good. Wishing for sunshine and blue skies...one can but dream! Not looking forward to the 5.30 rise!

  • no worries re maps guys, came from friendly guy on FRA forums, so thanks to him image

hi mountain goatess, we will look out for you as that will be about our speed i reckon..5hrs would be good image

  • Hi Clairster,

Oh well maybe I'll have some mates afterall!!! He he!

Will look out for the Innov8 team!

I'll be using my North Face Hydration pack, pale blue jacket...or red if its raining!image

  • Just highlighted all the route on my big map but from the bits I know I agree with MG that the route description looks pretty good - will probably take map along but only get out if / when required.

Only 1 quandrary - at the top of Trollers Gill there are two possible paths to the road, the FRA chap has indicated the high one but I reckon from the checkpoint GR's it's the low one - depends where the 'finger post' is !  Wouldn't make much difference either way.

Getting excited now....  see you in the morning   image

  • Hi Wharfedale Plodder,

Yes I was wondering about that checkpoint, the grid ref suggests the lower path? Hopefully will be able to follow someone elses lead at that point!

    Sleep well!
