It is interesting how qickly you forget that! reason why you did not see me at the end... I waited for you for a fair bit, until mild hypothermia changed to severe hypothermia and I went to the van to get changed into dry, warm gear... when I returned you had gone
I have been almost last... one bloke behind me and te ex, who got himself lost!!! It was a fell race with a strong field, not a beginners race and I was a beginner
I think beginners will do just fine, there are no really long steep bits or yawning chasms, and no one is aiming for a PB! I have run much slipperier races. On a clear day tho you may be so enchanted by the views you may veer off course (but will soom be picked up by one of our lovely stewards...) I have been last in a race before (Shobden) but got an enthiusiastic welcome from the organisers and my friends at the finish line - we at Hay Hotfooters guarantee that we will be there at the bitter end to cheer on the stragglers!
Took Dougal up the Begwns today - here's his early-Spring report; Had a sniff 'round that 10K course this morning - bit bright up there, blue skies an' fluffy clouds an' those noisy skylarks singing their silly heads off - particularly up by that roundabout thing. I had to wait while himself stood around there, admiring the Malverns or Beacons or something - could have been bloody Snowden for all I know the things you can see from there! Couldn't see Hay of course, buried under white misty stuff, but they don't get up 'til afternoon down there anyway, less they've got one of their Festival things on when they're all buzzing around like bluebottles. Anyway. we jogged on around the back - nice bit of mud under paw around there but that'll all have dried up by May so some of them runners won't be happy. They like it gloopy. Bit like a sheep-dip at the ford mind - had a drink there and cooled the belly (we'd been panting up hill see), nice clean water when there's not them runners muddying it up. Back up over the hill, across the road and up the next - grass was a bit short, those bloody sheep eating it all I s'pose. Very springy - could have gone 'boing, boing' like that friend of mine I s'pose. Silly B. Anyway, weren't a bad walk.... More reports from Dougal when he's had a good rest.
Latest update from the organisers point of veiw: having our first REAL meeting on Tuesday night, to ok all quotes (marquee, molile foodie van etc) Applying for alcohol licence, and I'd like to organise somewhere as a central meeting point for all runners/stewards/organisers and spectators to get together. Now wea-h-r permitting (all Hayhotfooters are banned from using this word), it would be magic indeed, if this could be in the roundabout, but we can't bank on it so we'll have a second option ready. Or it might be better to meet in the evening, any feedback here well appreciated prior to tuesday. It just seems such a shame not to meet after these events, when you know you'll have so much in common and the event itself to compare notes on. OR indeed to have a good moan at god for giving us said shit we-th-r..... You will appreciate that Hay will be insanely busy pub wise with the festival, that's why it would be great to meet either back at the Begwyns (outdoor party yay!) OR at a pub out of Hay (don't worry re: details - the Hayhotfooters are experts on all local watering holes, trust me on that one!!
As to earlier enquiries about racing numbers being the same if possible - it may not be possible as we have no's to use up from last year, and you then order follow on numbers. Leave it to auntie Cat to see what she can do!!
Will report back to base after Tuesdays meeting. It might be quite fun to involve your decisions and help in the process of organising our second race. In the meantime - you can all help by telling all your running mates of it's existance if you could. That would be great. The more the better, we can handle it, ,and it will be helping the Longtown Mountain rescue service this year. Happy running - I'm off to the Begwyns for a good run myself this afternoon - its bloomin gorgeous today (did not use that word, see!)
Oh go on then Han but I don't mind camping - not sure about the state of my tent though - might make a training ride down if I don't have to carry much

See if I can manage to:
Maybe take a hip flask - that'll do it!
Filled one and poured it back out in to a glass tonight tosee how much it would take.
Had to drink the stuff then of course - hey ho!
