thats what I said; as far as i can remember, plymouth had three hills. one just after the start, one going up saltram and one going up to the end; torbay had eight.
i am aware BTW that I was one of those saying torbay would be eaiser than Plymouth
My first half and I'm still buzzing! I reluctantly had my target time down as two hours (in this forum) and managed to pace myself at 9 min miles with a spurt at the end and finished at 1hr 57m and 40 something seconds (chip time).
I took your tips on board and it worked wonders; thanks so much again for your help. Sorry I didn't find you at the start but I bumped into an old football team mate from my home town in Leicestershire. That said, we did pass on route Kwilter (fortunately you had your name on your shirt) and I shouted you but I think your mind was elsewhere!
Loved the atmosphere and the friendliness of everybody, even the Elvis impersonator (or was it the real one?). I know what you mean about the hills - that last one was definately longer at the end.
I think I'll enter the Nottingham half in the Autumn; I've caught the bug and if any in the future are half as good as that one then I'll be delighted.
Now I'm just enjoying the rest of my holiday in Devon!
Not a good run for me, fine for 8 miles or so, then the previous Sunday's race reminded my legs that they didn't have much left - and they didn't! So I just ran in, getting overtaken by loads of other runners...
Hard & easy half marathons in Devon? Of the big 3 hardest has to be GWR, then Plymouth with Torbay being easiest, Of the rest Bideford is a PB course, never done Dartmoor Vale or Ruby.
Next one for me will be Cheddar - now that is a PB course!
Quick question - does anyone know how many people actually started the race? I know over 1,600 entered and 1,215 finished but I haven't seen the start number anywhere.
Great pics Small, well found. That's me being cheeky on the first picture with my arms in the air just prior to passing under the bridge. I remember thinking at the time what must the guy taking the photo think of me..
20 minutes: I am willing to have my mind changed; maybe my preperation for Torbay wasnt right; certainly I didnt feel quite 'right' as I did for Plymouth; Mrs42 wasnt at Torbay either and I wasnt running with my trainign partner as I did for Plymouth. As I say, I am willing to consider thinking about changing my mind.

Hi,
Okay i'll try Plymouth next year!
Going to try Cardiff in October i hear thats flat and as i'm not great on the hills.
Yeh Cardiff is close for me to! It would be great to finish in the Millenium Stadium....

Another relatively flat half is Bideford. I got my PB there this year.
My next half is going to be at Dartmoor Vale .... it's a bit hilly but I don't remember it being as bad as Torbay!
Hi all and well done to everyone.

Fortunately I'm not in any of them .... that I can see anyway
How about you?
Thanks Number42.
Great photos - well found Small! Spotted my back in one but fortunately no frontal close-up!

I like the way I started out looking happy and gradually get more miserable looking until the last one of the 4 where I look totally p***ed off!
Thanks for info on Chedder might look into that one!
Seen the photos!!
runnersbeen, you're obsessed the b word is not allowed anymore.
20 mins: plymouth harder than torbay.....?
Oh doG, I look like a fat blob in my phots!
Who am I kidding, I am a fat blob
Well done Michael! I've been thinking I wouldn't do it again but I think I probably should. I have to bury that terrible time I did, once and for all!
I did a 4 mile race in Exeter this evening. Nice and flat it was and very scenic ...... but still felt like hard work!
My bruised toenails are now throbbing
Well done Tinker; fantastic time IMHO and I'm relieved even snakes like you struggled on that last 'undulation'
kwilter: As if!
Richc: Je ne sais pas
did a 10k at fleetwood today and we where running for a 4 year old girl who has sotos diesase
to number 42 I did the blackpool mararthon in 2005 and every runner was sturggleing as it was 28c
but if I start to struggle I just carry on I will not give up
42 - Yes, I reckon Plymouth is quite tough. Torbay, despite my performance, has to be easier?

The things you do to occupy your mind!!
