Well I've gone and done it haven't I, I've just entered on-line and my husband are both going to do it. I've been talking about this for about a month or so now and after lots of chatting on forums about it I thought yep I'm gonna go for it. Life's too short for what if's.
I am in. First marathon and kind of wondering what I've let myself in for. It is my local marathon and I marshalled two years ago. Have run a few half marathons and guess I fancied the next challenge *gulp*
Hi Valley Girl, This is my first as well. Wondering the same thing - aghhh, too late now!! I'm up for my first half in 2 weeks and 3 weeks after that have entered a 15 to build myself up towards the marathon. Should be nice doing a local one for my first rather than a big one like FLM.
Oh, what to do? This or Beachy? Did beachy last year and it was a blast but never done a road mara! Got a ghost to bury at BH as only ran/walked it due to injury.
And please don't say both someone!
When does this fill up normally? I had better read back as that has probably already been answered.
Kaz - LOL. I had put a fiver on Hippo suddenly de-lurking and saying "both".... Beachy is fav at the mo. I just can't bear the thought of running laps! Sorry folks, but the old course didn't do laps I'm sure (OK so was only spectating and might be wrong)..... Anyone got a course map yet, the website is vague to say the least.
Tracey - so is B running BH this year Or is he going to terrorise everyone by riding the MTB at a 100mph up and down all the downs.
Glad I am not the only first timer. Good luck with the half and the 15.
I am running the Bonn half on 20 April. I was supposed to do the Bath half a couple of weeks ago but was struck down by the lurgy the day before the race. From what I've heard about that one I am glad I missed it. Will be nice to be doing the local one instead of one of the big ones for a first marathon.
I've been struck down with a the lurgies for about 3 weeks now! Just when I thought I was over it, something else came along - my training is not going well at the moment!! Good luck with the Bonn half! Hope these horrible viruses disappear soon, alot people I know who run are all suffering from it in some form or another. Good luck!
Kaz - The old Abingdon course had one big lap and a smaller lap at 18miles. Which when you came back to the 18 mile mark again you turned right and was at 25 miles.
PSC, soz missed your question about the blisters. Have sort of solved it. Now run in Nikes, with two pairs of padded socks and a liberal application of vaseline and I only ever get mild rubbing now.
Morning all. I e-mailed the organisers about the route yesterday and got this reply.
The course is almost finalised. The police are not allowed to stop traffic any more hence we are trying to find solutions at the road crossings. The first 13 -14 miles are the same, there is an extra loop of Drayton .Milton and Sutton Courtenay area. There is no lap around Abingdon Airfield.
I'm in! - Route actually sounds a bit of an improvement - lets hope so; dreaming of a 2:45 - 10 min pb, but no doubt reality will reinforce itself at FLM next week - good luck to everyone using FLM as a little warm up for Abingdon
I ran this race in 2004 and the only slight climb I could remember was just after the 20 mile point and that was a slight drag rather than a climb. Is the new course of the same undulations or more or less?
hello everyone, just signed up having watched the london marathon and felt like i needed a time challenge to aim for as currently all i do are off road hilly long stuff. says its flat in the description..something new to me though i've done a flat half and got a pb..so here's hoping abingdon gives me a marathon pb!
