Licking my wounds today over an FLM "DNS" - back and left leg problem. Sorely tempted to enter this one now, but will wait and see how the week unfolds, including visit to the osteo
Yep, Fling's next. Award winning chip shop at the finish. See you there.
Looking forward to this one. Will be running with (against?) my brother who has found a real increase in form this year. His PB is 3:35, mine 3:37, so honour is at stake here. He has done 12 Abingdon maras, against my only 3, so he "knows the course".
I suppose the biggest problem is avoiding the town centre gyratory system, in previous years one of the more dangerous things I've had to negotiate in road running.
i'll be behind you t rex but hopefully not too far. i got 3.57 at white peak last year but had foot trouble from 18m which knackered me up so would love 3.50ish here. as i said best start training.
will there be room on the course for others with two mighty dino's battling it out?!
So, old dinos What advice to someone who was considering Abingdon a week before Snowdonia? I've never run 2 marathons within a week of each other before. Do you just take the whole week off running in between and hope for the best? I'm entering if I can hide the fact from the OH until September.
luna man - I'll let you into a secret here. I've never done marathons on consecutive weekends, either. But this year I'm doing this on two occasions and in Sep a 40-miler and a marathon on consecutive days.
I would certainly do no running at all between such marathons, but some cross-training and plenty of stretching, iced baths, etc.
me neither about 2 in 1 week so i've decided to target abingdon for time and just trot round snowdon best i can. i got all competitive yesterday watching flm. most unlike me.
If we NEVER Our planned Full Marathons for 2008 are -
Blackpool
Robin Hood
Abingdon
Luton
But, if we never get to run another Full Marathon, after yesterday, well, i can sit here and LMAO
Well, you didn't include the UNPLANNED MARATHONS, but I bet that your final comment is even more valid. Well done Marathon Lads, you made it look EASY EASY EASY.
I've entered this one too, not really committing myself to a time until i get Edinburgh Mara out of the way first, but think i've got this 'sub 3 lark' finally cracked now after a disappointing Gloucester Marathon back in January. No doubt the 'usual suspects' will be ever present at Abingdon again
Total respect Nick P - whatever the speed everyone hurts the same - never run for longer than 3:15 in my life - no comprehension of keeping going any longer than that.
I've just run London and i'm going to Stockholm in May. I'm looking for an autumn marathon to run and was thinking of this one. I'd be aiming for around 4 hours but wasn't sure if this race is suitable for that time or whether it's mainly for speed freaks! Any thoughts?
I agree, really good, friendly, well organised , flat, scenic mara- in 2006 25% of all the finishers had times from 3.45 to 4.15 - plenty for company, but also enough room to run your own race - very different experience from a big city marathon, but well worth it nonetheless
Comments
You entering, luna man? Don't know what the course is yet, but I suspect it will be fairly flat.
CD - Connemara? I feel fine.
ssssssh lm / t rex if fr fins us on here we'll be done for.
glad you withheld that one t rex. are you still on for the fling?
sorry to here that s3ob - hope you make it out here then eh

BR - I'm assuming the undulations will be the same or similar to previous years for most of the course.
Abingdon has a major traffic queue problem at the moment and so hopefully we'll be running past more stationary cars than moving ones.
I've never actually run this before but have marshalled it 2 or 3 times.

havent you T rex??????
REALLY?
TRex - iced baths? in October? Blimey, this all sounds like hard work. What about saunas? hot chocolate?
and pancakes with lashings of golden syrup
don't forget t rex has exceptionally thick scales

Ok I'm up for this one.
Do we have a list of who's doing it with predicted times?
No. Hippo doesn't like lists. Perhaps we could slip one in unnoticed nearer the time. I'm going for 3:35 or bust.
Welcome, postie postie - a fine choice. Flat course. Great cameraderie. Strong forum presence. Grandstand finish on a running track.
Hippo - no, really. I've managed to spread out my races more thinly up to now.
Luna man - well, cold bath. I don't add the ice. Very therapeutic. I don't do saunas, or hot chocolate.

Wonder if you can help?

T Rex,
Hippo got her sub 4.30 at FLM, now she's a fast hippo, not a plodding hippo
