The Popticians were a band fronted by John Hegley; Hattie Haydridge was also a member, I believe. They did a Peel session many moons ago. "Scoutmaster" is one of my faves; the song is largely about how the Scoutmaster taught people to always carry a plaster.
"If Jesus had carried a plaster He would still have been alive today"
Brrrr. That was fun. Car went "boing" to warn me of frost - like "duh". -7.5 degrees!!! Drove very gingerly to the trail where we were running, then set off - I had a fleece on, and a Buff on my head, and fleecy gloves. After a quarter of a mile, my nose felt as though it was going to fall off. Ran for the next quarter mile with a hand over my nose. The other half, whose head is too big for all known hats, was running with his hands over his ears. I contemplated taking my Buff off my head & putting it around my face instead, but soldiered on. Half a mile in, my fingers started to tingle, and I voiced my concern about carrying on, since I have problems with chilly fingers - they go white at the ends & numb sometimes. But I had an idea - my fleece had overlong sleeves, so I clenched my hands into fists & pulled the sleeves over them.
It took about a mile & a half before we both felt comfortable enough to believe we coull do a full plod. Once our bits had warmed up, we took a bit of an interest in the surroundings - frost makes things beautifully sparkly. It was cold enough that the river was frozen over - something I've never seen in that area before. The bloke turned around at 2.5 miles to go back, and I carried on, planning to get to 3.5 before I turned around. But I felt rather bouncy and spring-like, so I carried on to 4 miles before turning around. A fab 8 mile plod; supposed to be slow, but I felt so good I did it a bit faster than planned (it was dead flat though).
When I got back to the car, the temperature was up to a balmy -4.5 degrees.

Evening!
Womble and I did the "Meon Valley Plod" this morning . . . . and yes, that's its real name.
I have not added the "plod" word to it.
So I felt it was practically obligatory to participate, as plodders
If this were an essay I would accuse you of padding.
Go to http://www.chatburn-weather.co.uk/ and you can see where I am on the web cam. I'm somewhere behind the big tree on the right.
