thanks for the info, screamapillar. didn't come on this thread to fall out, just to benefit from weighing up differing views.
whatever happens now seems to be in the hands of higher agencies than a humble forum, the collected opinions of which will not amount to a hill of beans to them
It's Mike King here, occasional RW photographer. I saw this forum and posted a comment. It's going too long but nice that a few of us have chatted over it, and it is a real issue. Tommie's a muppet, not a clown. If he just wants to collect money, he can stay behind the barriers. Lovely to spot you both in Woolwich. That's a great time as you're pushing Phil.
As you probably know, at Boston they start the 'Mobility Impaired' division (which includes those pushing others) an hour before the main start. I had the great pleasure of seeing Team Hoyt and others in action this year. Nobody complains about them causing a H&S hazard, that's for sure!
I'm sure I passed the same clown, "Tommy," as I saw 2 years ago about mile 20 walking very slowly, looking remarkably fresh considering all that he was wearing, pushing, and all the buckets he was holding for cash, stopping to chat to the crowd while they filled it up. I tried to get a look at his number, but it was obscured. I really hope that he's doing good work there and I know I was in a bit of a state at that point and was hardly zipping along, but I did wonder how he could have been so far along the course at that point if he really had started at the beginning....
Well last year I informed his charity. Did anyone talk to the marathon organisers? (Can't remember, and really should be going to bed rather than looking myself).
Maybe we should threaten to go to the media this time...
I always thought Pol Pot was a rather unpleasant character, but he's nothing compared to a clown raising money for charity. Is there no depths to which humanity cannot sink?
At least he had the decency to produce a less startling time this year. Perhaps, irony of ironies, his chip did actually fail him mid-race this year...
That's the guy I saw. If he's really raising money for charity then that's obviously a good thing, but do a 10k if that's what you can do. Don't fool everyone that you're completing 26 miles because he clearly isn't. And if a person is prepared to be dishonest about that.....

Hi Mick,

Best regards to Mrs. Mick also, love Mike.
Hi Mike
Hoping all's well

I don't think we saw him at mile 17
then again, that doesn't mean he didn't "do" the event, as on past history he skips mile 17 anyway
we had a comedy wok at the ready as well - shame he didn't turn up
Pitiful.
I saw some clowns at about mile 2 on the red start - but didn't look like 'Tommy the clown' - maybe last year's discussion has chased him off . . .
Tommy from Greenock wears a clown costume
10 km

err

Pie him and pie him good.

Irrespectively, pie him hard.
