Thank you all for your support. She really is a piece of work! One of the drivers at work told me to keep in mind that she was so dense, she wouldn't even have realised she'd said anything insensitive. Silly woman!
This weekend I'm mainly knitting and drooling over the hand spun website that someone (Mrs G?) posted a link to.
I've finished work until after my op now. Had a few days leave to use up before the end of the month, so tagged them at the start of my time off. Op date is next Wednesday, NBM from 0700.
Lovely L my support nurse arranged for me to see a counsellor via the Macmillan centre. Good to spend an hour whining, although those who I had to share a car with at the weekend might say I did plenty of that then. Feeling stronger emotionally right now, but will no doubt have plenty of wibbles before Wednesday.
Oy!

It was supposed to be tomorrow, but I've just had a phone call asking me to go in today instead. Ultrasound booked at 5pm, then a night on the ward before op tomorrow afternoon. Total waste of a bed in my opinion, but there you go.
I need to sort my overnight bags out, one for clothes and one full of books and knitting & sewing to stop the boredom setting in.

I went in, I sulked, they let me home again after a scan. Apparantly the radiologist was on leave last week, so to get the scan I needed to be an in-patient.
Just about to leave again after a breakfast of a glass of water. Rattler is primed to phone after 5:30 and will keep people up to date with what's happening after that.

I'm home! Large scar from the left side of my thyroidectomy scar up towards my right ear, and behind it. Sutures out alternately on Wednesday and Friday. Pain all under control, with a combnation of PCA, oromorph, paracetamol and voltarol while I was in and paracetamol & voltarol now I'm home.
For the medically minded, the wound is exposed, I had 2 doses of an IV antibiotic, and it's had 1% chloramphenicol applied after cleaning today.
Thank you to everyone for the on and offline support, flowers chocs and texts, you've had me in tears at all the kindness you've shown me and Rattler.
Rest up now.

Thank you again for the good wishes, it's given me so much strength knowing there's so many people behind me wishing me well, even though I've not met all of you.
Morning report, slept really well, Rattler gallantly had the sofa.
I'm a bit tender round the wound, but am about to dose up on painkillers with my breakfast. Don't like the taste of the fizzy calcium, but don't like the pins & needles I get if I don't have it. I might go for a walk this afternoon.
Survived another night. I had a bath for the first time since my op last night which was bliss. Still got a lot of numbness around the wound and up to my ear whch is looking bruised, but its bearable.
Went for a walk round to my office today, 10 minutes each way, and bought lunch from the factory shop on the way home. I wrapped up in a big scarf so the scars didn't show, my colleagues said I was looking a lot less tense than I had been in the last couple of weeks. Feeling quite sleepy now, so off for a nap.
Appointments booked for suture removal and bloods for calcium levels later this week, waiting for an appointment to see the surgeon next week for reports on how it went
I was going to say "Chin up" but would that be dangerous?

Today's progress was a shower by myself, washing my hair and bathing around the wound. Wound site seems to be healing quite nicely, which is good as I'm having alternate stitches out tomorrow. I'm trying to remember to keep turning my head instead of my upper body, and that's improving as well.
Rattler took me out for lunch (at Sainsburys!) which was my first trip out with strangers. I wrapped a big scarf round my neck and no-one seemed to notice anything amiss

I can't bear not showering or washing. When I was last in hospital on a mixed ward the locks on the bathroom doors were all disabled 'for safety' ???
Mr P used to come in daily to shower me and hold the door shut. How many people will shower with an unlocked door?
