work or rest

As a relatively new runner, i have been quite lucky with injuries. This is probably down to building up my milage at a conveniently slow pace. I am attempting the Manchester 10k this sunday and have put the hours in over the last few weeks. However, all of a sudden i am getting pain to the inside of my knee which is apparently "Runners knee". I know i have not got much time but was wondering should i just rest it and hope for the best, or go to the gym and do some bike work to help strenghten the knee.

Any advice would gratefully received.
