I've been running for about 6 weeks now - following the plan in "Running made Easy". Today, when I started running, instead of walking again after 2 minutes as per the plan, I decided to just keep going to see how long I could run for and just over 10 minutes later, I finally slowed to a walk. I am so pleased - I know it sounds completely trivial to all you experienced runners out there, but I couldn't run for a minute 6 (or is it 7?) weeks ago.
Trouble is, I have no idea how FAR that was so I think I need some sort of gadget to tell me how far I'm going.

Well done Kate
I share your glowing pride girly, I know exactly where your coming from and congratulate you. It's the best feeling in the world when you keep going isn't it, you will be amazed in a few more weeks you mark my words. I can now run non stop for between 30 and 45 minutes and I only started running in the middle of march. Just remember to take it slowly and you'll be amazed how quickly your stamina will build. I don't know about you but I can go for a run in the foulest mood and when I get back I'm all smiles and the nicest person in the world.......it's like taking a happy pill
You keep feeling proud and let me know the next time you go out for a run how you did, we can pat each other on the back.
Take care and well done again
Susi
How about treating yourself to a Garmin running GPS. The Forerunner 201 is the cheapest, but look around online as prices do vary a lot. If you want a heart rate monitor built in then you could go to the Forerunner 205.
Have fun with your new toy whatever you decide on. Getting my first 201 made such a difference to my running, it made it all the more enjoyable as I could challenge myself all the time.
I can't quite stretch to a Garmin gadget at the moment, but I might put it on my Christmas list! I tried about 3 times to map my run last night and kept getting in a mess with it (it had me running across the sea at one point!) and I eventually gave up, so I've ordered a Nike + thing for now - I already have an ipod so it isn't costing much.
Perhaps I'll try for 11 or 12 minutes tomorrow!
brilliant
keep it up
well done you

I have already entered for a 10k in September (because I knew if I didn't have something to train for after the rfl my motivation would die and I would stop running), and I'm regretting even that!
