hi i've never enterd a race b4 but am doing the 09 FLM. i want to get some race exsperance so should i make this my 1st? i've had a couple of pains in my hip on my last couple of long runs so not ran 13 miles for about 3 weeks.
Dean, most people have never run 13 miles before their first half so I wouldn't let that be your deciding factor. I would run once or twice for a few gentle miles to see how your hip is doing during the week and then maybe do the Gosport Half at a gentle pace. Obviously, what ever time you do will be a PB for you as its your first, so enjoy!
Entered on 28th Oct but still no race number. If its not there when I get home tonight then I think its time to email the race director
Looking forward to the new course, although perhaps they should rename this the Leigh on Solent Half as most of it looks like being run well away from Gosport.
Anyone who hasn't run a half before shouldn't be too worried. Its about as easy as half marathons get, it truly is flat and the only thing that can make things tricky is if there is a strong wind blowing alongside the seafront. This is definitely a beginner-friendly event.
Thanks for the kind words for us HM newbies - one of the reasons I chose this one was 'cos everyone says it's pancake flat so sould be relatively easy.
Really excited about this race. We're making a weekend of it.
The weather forecast is improving on a daily basis.
The joy now of doing nothing until the race and even better - we now all get the excuse to eat loads of carbs between now and Sunday. Oh I do love a race!
Have any of the locals actually been round the course yet?
Last run tonight and then feet up and chillax till Sunday . Weather is looking better, I don't mind the rain just don't want the wind. Talking of wind, still not sure whether to take some gels on the race or just rely on water & jelly baby's? I do tend to run out of steam towards the end so maybe the gels would help .
I'm a sports bean convert - I just don't like the messiness of the gels but it really is each to their own. I like leaving them to dissolve under my tongue as I run along, gently releasing sugar into my system - I find it really helps.
Only water en route though so no lucozade/powerade spurt of energy midway.
I'm still planning on just porridge in the morning with just water through the race - don't think it's affected my performance adversely to date!
Haven't been able to get out much this week so will have to go out tomorrow for a nice easy run. I did some intervals yesterday but there were only 6 that were under my required pace for Sunday - I'll be lucky to make it over the start line at this rate. I was on my own though and find it much harder to push myself especially as I wasn't really in the mood! Maybe I was subconsciously making sure I didn't injure myself ...
Yes - definitely nervous now and also just getting over some sort of lurgie so not feeling too confidant right now. Hopefully all will be well on the day tho' - It's just a matter of takeing it easy, getting round and trying to enjoy it.
Dunno about last year, Mr. K., but weather looks to be good for Sunday - slightly cloudy and light winds. I reckon shorts and vest'll be the order of the day.
Weather last year was sunny, so similar to what it should be tomorrow - perfect!
Doug2, you'll be fine, first time (& many times) nerves are to be expected. Glad to hear you got your mojo back CTP, my target is sub 2 Hrs. My question is now - music or no music? Two times round the airfield could be quite lonely from where I will be.
Anyway, good luck to everyone what ever your time will be. Its going to be a great pancake flat race with perfect weather and good organisation - not something you get at many events, enjoy!!
PLEASE HELP!!! I have just realised whilst packing my stuff that I have not received my race number. A few days ago,I received race entry details for a different race that I am running in a couple of weeks time and foolishly assumed it was the Gosport info. I have sent an email to the race director, does anyone else have any ideas as to what else I can do as I dont want to get to Gosport and find I am not allowed to run. Many thanks.

A) Got home last night and found the race entry waiting for me, so now happy.
That should be Lee on Solent.

Hello Gobi
Still deciding on long legs or shorts, jacket or just vest on sunday I don`t think I`ll have a problem running in either...
Anyone - What was the weather like for last year`s run?
Am looking forward to it

MM1, you may want to check the rules with the organisers as many road races won't allow MP3s or the like...
Hello Kelburn,
Relax - prob not the first time someone got to a race without their race number.....and not be the last.
It says you can entered on the day plus you have e-mailed the RD so don`t worry..
I would suggest getting there earlier than you planned so that this can be sorted.
