I know you're all going to Switzerland and Lanza but this pirate will hopefully be flying the skull and cross bones in Germany in 2009.

I'm off there next Friday to race the 08 edition. Can't wait. Will be in serpie gear, but the pirates will be with me in spirit no doubt. I reckon it will sell out within 4 hours tops. Get ready on that refresh button!

Excellent guys-you'll really enjoy it. This will be my 3rd outing around IMDE, and its my favourite IM. Time wise, its hard to say. I was hoping to go sub 10, but have had about 7 weeks out through injury since March and this has put a downer on training somewhat. Swim I'll be 55 or thereabouts. Bike around 5 hours. Its whether or not I got enough run volume in to trouble the 9 hour something mark. Will find out next Sunday!

 Depending on recovery from 2008, I'll be looking for about 10:30 in 2009. Not in the same league as you though.  Also can't start IM training until end of march after MdeS.

10:30 is a bit ambitious. Best to date is 11:15 but I am getting much better so why not aim high

The official pirate Ironman is Switzerland, with a side order of Lanza for those that fancy that. There's a whole debate going on at the moment.

If you aim for the moon and miss, you will land amongst the stars. I think the road to a brilliant peformance starts with you living that brilliant performance. Its a self fulfilling prophecy. All too often people understate themselves for fear of failing. You want to go sub 10:30, then tell the world and go do it. More power to you.

Not a pirate - not a serpie - just your tri newbie ... but I am signed up as well!

Was pretty suprised by the €400 price tag - bit much me thinks.

Anybody for a decent not too complicated training plan? I have the Triathlon Bible but find the training plan bit too complicated for me.

Luddy - learn to eat malt loaf whilst riding.
Plenty of literature about on training etc...loads of advice on here, and at beginnertriathlete.com ( american but I found it useful ).
If your swimming ain't great, get some coaching as soon as you can.

The German people take this very seriously, I was in Cologne on holiday the day after last years race and they had the winners photo on the front page of the national papers, you don't get that in this country !!

Ta ironholgs. I'm not in the same league as the rest of you though, haven't ever broken 15 hours yet. But I've just improved my 1500m swim from 41mns last year to 36 this year in the same race.  Last night's coached session saw 2 x 400m at 8:30 pace, off a 100m best of 2:07 - pretty constant pacing. If I can keep that sort of improvement up I'll be looking at a fairly decent IM swim time for the first time in my life. Roll on 2009 eh????
