Hurray, at last, someone (ahem) slow like me. Hoping to break the 15 at Cologne on 7 September as it's practically flat - can be windy though.
I live close enough to Frankfurt that I can go ride bits of that bike course on weekends sometimes for practice! It's permanently signposted all the way round.
Jo I suppose it's staying for next year as there's nothing posted anywhere about the new venue. I had the impression from the article that it hasn't been decided yet.
Thanks Holgs - I've always struggled with the swim but since joining our coached group at tri club I've improved enormously.
Just been on the website and it says entries were full within 12 hours. However another 500 places will be released next Monday and another 100 places next January if anyone else fancies Germany next year.
It's not really sank in yet I have entered think I am still in shock
amazing! This year's race hasn't even taken place yet and next year is full already. At this rate we'll soon be entering 2 years in advance, like the MdS participants do! At least it gives us plenty of training time.
Luddy, I'm sure there is a link somewhere but I couldn't see it so I went to the 2008 starter list and put a 9 in the title bar where the 8 was. crude but effective.
Yeah guys, for anyone who is interested my race number is 2432. Assuming that ironmanlive doesn't crash as per usual, then you can track my hopefully speedy progress through the race. The excitement is starting now-flying out Friday, and I'm starting to feel strong. Took 1 min 30 off my 21 mile TT end of last week, and everything feels really easy. Its going to come down to the run again. I have put a lot more volume work in this year and am definitely faster. Whether this will mean I can run the whole thing or not though remains to be seen. Its going to be epic
Cheers guys. Nice to know that I will have a virtual pirate support crew behind me. I'm well up for this one. Chatting to a couple of serpies who have gone out today-atmosphere is building nicely. I love Ironman!
Whats all this talk of pacing. Go hard or go home. I shall do my best not to fall apart too badly on the marathon, but can't promise Packing my stuff ready for an early flight tomorrow. I'm feeling strong and excited. See you out there cougie-give us a shout
Hope you've calmed down. I have just taken 2 hours to pack my bike. I swear bike boxes are designed so that you have to get the bike in the right position to the exact millimetre, otherwise it won't all go in. Its like a giant carbon rubix cube! Phew, anyway, finally all packed and ready to go, although everything had to be taken apart which should be fun on the other side putting it all right. How very exciting!

Training time ?
Think I read about that sort of thing once
.... so where would if find that "list with lots of names on already"?
Training time? Cycled to work today. Does that count?
Good thinking that Smiley lady!
My name is down....think I am German now though think I may have made a mistake on the entry form in my rush to get it sent through
Holgs your name is there too! I couldn't see it at first and it crossed my mind you had set me up lol!
And just think of the all the interest the organisers are getting on depositing some 800,000 Euros in the bank for a year!
Lol - it would be a very odd business if that's what they did, IW. They'll probably be more interested in words like 'turnover' and 'cashflow'...
looking at what you did at Weymouth then you should be in fine fettle for IMDE
Best of luck Mike, I'm sure you'll have a storming race.
Website allowing I'll be tracking you on sunday.
Have a good race Mike.....and don't over cook the bike
The field looks really strong - Macca, Brown, Stadler, Bracht, Al-Sultan in the men's race.
Go Chrissie W!
So mad he didn't turn up at HIMUK.
Good luck Mike, remember to hammer that swim and bike, no ones cares about the run split really!!!!!!
