Bike ponce help needed

HELP!!!!!

I took my nice new bike out for a spin alst night and it seems that the gears need adjusting....

If you assume that the largest cog on the back is 1st gear, then it seems that when in gears 2, 3 and 4, it goes a bit flaky and appears to jump from one sprocket to another...I hope this makes some sense...

I am assuming that this just needs some adjustment but the wierd thing is that in 1st gear there doesn't seem to be a problem..

The gears are Shimano....

Any help out there? Please?

Quite easy to fix however if the gears aren't working slickly when it leaves a shop for the first time it makes one wonder about the other more important safety checks not having been carried out.  I'd take it back to the shop and get the chief mechanic to look at it

Cheers fb...just checking that out now..

SM...will call the bike shop today and complain....I may take it back to them but may not have the time.....

I'm a bit p*ssed off as otherwise it is a lovely bike and feels so light and responsive even compared to my other bike...although this may be partly psychological.....

either twiddle the knob on the back of the rear mech a little, or the little knobs  that the cables go into on the frame.

Not a big issue and something that needs adjusting on a fairly regular basis as cables stretch, weather changes and bits wear out etc.

Stick it in the turbo RB, then index it using the cable adjuster on the rear derailler. The turbo will then act as a stand so you can turn the old pedals. If its a new bike its cable stretching like what Calf said

Cheers Bassy...the bike is brand new and I only rode it for the first time last night....will stick it on the turbo tomorrow and have a play.

RB - turbo might not be ideal IF the turbo clamp conflicts with the cable run.  If the cable is moved at all when you clamp it in, it will thrown the indexing out fractionally.  If the cable isn't touched then you will be fine.  I know from experience that my turbo affects the indexing.

Ah, Ratty, all the gear and no idea mate ! At least I haven't (yet) rushed out and bought all the gear ....
