It's less than 4 weeks and only the chance of 2 or 3 ow sessions for me. I'll have to do a search for the Brighton one and get the distances etc. Bike will be hilly but apparently it's just 30k.

But we digress from the thread topic

nope - not done Brighton tri despite it being on my doorstep - the thought of swimming in a diesel polluted marina sort of puts me off.....

there is another Brighton on the same day (bizarre but true!) which has an open sea swim - maybe give that a go? os do the South Coast tri at Seaford although that one is this weekend coming I think!

understand the MTB competition for 2012 will be held in the depths of Essex probably not Wilks - IOC suggested the terrain wasn't suitable enough so they have to go look for somewhere else.....imho they need to go to the North or South Downs or out to the Chilterns to get a better MTB course

Lots of great places already exist - but they'r plowing their own furrow and making one. I think they have the location now - its not a county renowned for its severity of climbs. Somewhere southish ?

strangely enough Wales isnt and never has been part of or near London

and Manchester were trying for the Olympics as far back as 1996/2000 and then settles for the 2002 Commonwealth Games - the legacy of that included the Velodrome where British Cycling has been plotting this success  for a few years now - we want to give our Cycling team a huge welcome back home to the Velodrome soon !

dunno - listening to chat on the radio today (people whining about how much money was invested in sports cycling being cash rich, posh sports only delivering medals balahblah) it was noted that the Olympic success effect only tends to last for a few weeks and tends to attract people form other sports anyway rather than Sofa Spuds ! I guess the point is that for people already taking part it gives them aspirational heroes  and targets to aim for when there is success in their sport?

Slightly off the point but cycling and running aren't always compatible.

After 35 years of running and a few knee ops plus the resultant arthritis, was really struggling even to walk sometimes. The obvious culprit was the running although there were times when I felt better and looser after a 30-40 minute run.  Then one day, was forced to do a long bike commute of about 12 miles and found myself barely able to walk afterwards the knees were so sore. A light switched on. I stopped cycling more than 2-3 miles and am running freely for the first time in years.
