  • Oh thank you Molly you just made me laugh out loud, followed by a rather unladylike snort image

Thanks DCB have one yourself (((((((((DCB)))))))))) Good luck with your half marathon, hope you get the time you want...............

Good luck to everyone else who is racing this weekend, a fair few of us image

Very soggy wet 6 miles in my lunch hour.  Never normally take break, but have realised that works so will do more often now.  Takes about 15 mins to get to Arrow Valley Park, which is huge and a really nice place to run............  Got a shower at work so must utilise more

LOL Bedshaped, 20 minutes................... ah if I could do it in 20 minutes they wouldn't miss me image

their dad is going to look after them while I run, admitted he did remember me asking so alls good.  I struggle with 5K, hurt hurt hurt, feel sick, then finished!  Don't really hit my stride until 3 miles into a race..... Really want to beat times from a couple of months ago so will be going all out............. fingers crossed.....

    Hiya everyone else.......... image

    Congrats LS image

  • MORNING EVEYBODY.

Congrats Leslie on number 2s arrival. When my daughter was born she looked so much like me that I  thought it only fair to triy to put her back up  there again. The midwife and wife didn't go alot on it though.image!!!!

  • Big baby hugs and congrats Leslie imageimage great news image

Everybody sounds well, fit and upbeat image and now its Friday image

bedshaped doc went fine, I've strained a muscle in it, so the normal RICE as much as I can. Got the arm out of the way then had a blether about running and cycling LOL I said to her that my arm started to get worse after a 4 mile run so don't know what it will be like on Sunday and we had a laugh about that!!! ha ha its great having a running doctor image

Betty just get the smallest piece of green ribbon from a hobbies type ribbon shop lol mine cost about 20p !! any colour of gree and then just attach it to your hair, cap or your t shirt, whatever you want image

4 hrs at work for me today, Fridays are half day image lovely. No long doggie walk this aft, just a short one and house work. I need all the rest I can get for Sunday image lol

Yeh I wonder if Allan will be back to conquer whatever went wrong at Edin this year? I forgot about Deal or No Deal, wonder if he got in!! And yeh I agree that bloody wind killed me this year and last year!!! I'll take hills over wind anyday!! lol

Picked my new bike this is ma beauty image hopefully get it in next week - two. Yeeha can't wait to burn some miles on it. Hubby getting new one aswell so we are planning routes already with the boys and without.

Talking of boys I really feel for you RR get well soon to your gorgeous running partner. I way prefer running with mine rather than on my tod!!! They seem to like it too lol

    Have good Friday all xxxxxxx

  • Morning All.

Hope you don't mind if I join the forum. I've entered the 2009 Edinburgh Marathon, and i'm looking for any recommendations of where to stay in Edinburgh. Never been to Scotland before, looking forward to spending some time up there.

    Any suggestions gladly received.

  • Hi JoeSam - one of this lot will know, I'm a midlands runner.....

Bungee - W-a-y-c-o-o-l bike, bet you can't wait!

  • smiffie I can't image...... but just found out from personel that all the forms from everyone go in together on 15 Sep (closing date for scheme) so will be a wee bit longer to wait before I get it image

Hi JoeSam all welcome here, competitors and supporters image Booking as soon as you can would be advisable cos the choices will get less and the prices more, the longer you leave it!!! For race day and staying for a few days you are prob best to stay near in the city centre. Use google maps to check out distances etc anything near Princes St, you can't go wrong with, its the hub of Edinburgh for shops, eating, drinking sightseeing etc. And the race starts near there aswell. The folk on here who travelled to the race last year will be able to give you advice as to where they stayed. The more expensive hotels are Balmoral, Apex, Sheraton, Radisson and a whole lot more lol. But there are cheaper ones like Holiday Inn, all are walking distance from Princes St. Loads to choose from image

  • Morning,

Congrats on the new arrival Leslie.

Just off to do some painting in the utility room this morning.  Catch you laters.

  • Are you addicted to decorating Soph

    Morning all

  • Helloooo my name is Soph and I'm a serial decorator, it just happened and I couldn't stop doing it.  I found myself wandering the aisles of Aldi and Homebase looking at paint brushes and tins of paint that were good value.  Then, I bought a dust sheet and I just kept going.  I don't know how to stop, please help!! imageimage
  • Morning guys. Congrats Leslieimage. Baby season at mo!! 2 pals had little girls in the past few weeks. Andy's still waiting on his to pop, week over due now, c'mon baby Andy!!

Take it easy with the arm Bungee and you lot have a fab time at GSR. I'm running half the river ayr race tomorrow, i'll stick with just 22 mile and a nice easy pace. No idea what terrain like which will be fun.

    Good luck with yours Smiffieimage

Kiwi you can't put babies back, sorry.

Soph you have a fun day then look out yellow pages and go to the painters anonymous section and give them a phone, you need help.

Did boxcercise last night. Not done it for a while and it was boxers circuits this time instead of the usual punching with no gloves on in mid air, got to punch proper with gloves on. Loved it - woohoo!! There's a very hidden deep down aggression within me me thinks. image

  • PMSL Soph you need a support group or else you could just run away!!

I’ve decided to buy some shoes for off road running after trail running this week and almost ending up flat on my back to the amusement of my running partner.  I usually run in Brooks Adrenaline GTS7 shoes which offer moderate support as I mildly over pronate.  Can anyone recommend a good off road shoe that is not too expensive?  I’ll probably go to a specialist shop to buy, but any recommendations would be welcome.
  • DCB, Innov8's every time!  Nothing comes close to them, they are in their own league.
  • DCB I also run in Brooks Adrenalin GTS7's I love them image I bought trail shoes for The Ochils race and I bought a pair of inov8s after advice for Soph and Karen (they both love them) I bought mine online and they needed no breaking in at all, did a couple of runs in them before the 22 mile extravaganza and not one blister or rub anywhere image I love them already and they are great for the bike aswell image These were the ones I got, thought I would start off with a cheaper pair in the sale lol Karen loves her Fly Rocks.
  • bungee did you get the same size that you have for the Brooks?  If they come recommended by someone who also loves their Brooks Adrenalin GTS7's I may take a chance and buy on line to save time and money.  As I'm planning spring marathons now I'm also on the look out for another cheap pair of the Brooks - anyone know of any on-line?  All the places I've looked are sold out of the GTS7.  I wear size 9
  • Bungee - yer right, Brooks Ady's GTS7's are the bizzo. On my 2nd pair and buying a 3rd for Chicago mara in October!! Get them really cheap now too, that they're a discontinued line, got my last pair for 40quid.

Cannae wait for Sunday's glasgow ½y!

    NM.image

  • NM where did you get them for £40 ?
  • Glasgow half seems to be THE PLACE for the weekend- hope you all do well.

Soph  I was looking online for  off road trainers and came accross the innov8- they certainly get a good write up so perhaps i should get a pair.

http://www.highlandcross.co.uk/frame.htm  A colleague has won this and came  2nd this year. look s good fun. i've actually been enjoying more off road and hill training over the past few months but will def need better trainers if i decide to do more- especially over the winter.

Karen- i'd love to try  some sort of self defence classes glad you had a good time - we'd better give you a wind berth in future!!

Bungee- new bike  -great stuff. I borrowed daughters bike 'cos she never uses it. But shes taken it back..the ammount i use a bike just not worth a new 1 so maybe i should just keep my eyes open for a 2nd hand 1.

    Smiffie hi hope you're Ok

Hi to all new folk too- including babies image

Ok need to do more housework- i know how to live..... then i can have a chill image tomorrow

    Molly XX

  • That's after Karen has kissed them all over and whispered sweet nothings to them image

DCB I have 6.5 in my Brooks but had to make do with a size 6 innov8s cos that was the largest! (i'm size 6 in normal shoes) And even though my left foot is a wee bit bigger than the right and that shoe was initially tighter, it has still been great and has now loosened off image But in answer to your question I would buy the same size that you run in and I reckon online would be ok cos they are sooooo comfy imageimage And no I have never found the original pair of GTS7's online that I got from Footworks, I did buy a pair online which were a lot cheaper and they are great but they are still not as comfy as my first pair out of the shop! Think my online pair came from the US so different colour etc. I need a new pair aswell and had planned to get some to break in for LN but I've not had any niggles or anything so they are now going to do me till after that lol Think they are at about 350 miles (i need to get my Fetch training up to date!! image

  • Hi Molly I was watching that race on The Adventure Show this week, it looked great, LINK it says there is a delay on it coming to iplayer but watch out for it cos there was a lot of coverage.Sounds like Karens off road fairy dust has been travelling far and wide lol image

I can't remember where I got mine from DCB but just keep hunting on the net and you'll find some I'm sure.

I better do the same as molly and get some houswork done!!!! image

  • A wind berth Molly? Good stress buster i can tell you. Sit ups passing a medicine ball though - OMG!! Much more fun off road and i can't see me doing this race again. Not even for training.

Loving the bike Bungee - way cool. Very jealous. I'm thinking of doing the cairngorm charmer end of october, looks like fun.

Heading to Ayr shortly guys but best of luck to you all at weekend. I'll be rooting for you all.XX

  • DCB - got my last pair from M&M Direct. Mens clothing, online. Out of stock now unfortunatley (very unfortunate, as they were last doing them at TWENTY quid!!). You can still get them for 50 here: http://www.shop-com.co.uk/Brooks_Adrenaline_GTS_7_Running_Shoe-100013724-p%21.shtml?trk=1

On the subject of clobber, does anyone ken where I can get a proper running top (t-shirt - not a vest) wi the St Andrews cross on it? Wouldnae mind one fro running in Chicago. Being dead patriotic these days lol.image

  • At £20 a pair I would have bought a shed load NM b**ger!  Can't help with the St Andrews top I'm afraid.

  • Yeah, I only spotted that when I went online to have a look for another pair yesterday. At that price I reckon I'd have bought a few pairs. They've still got other shoes on there if anyones interested:

  • More 'things':

Thing 1. Does anyone remember if there was a race report in RW on this years Edi mara? I cant mind seeing one, but then, I'm getting old and there may have been one which I've now forgotten about.

    Thing 2. Check the weather for Sunday's weegie ½:  -> http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1946

Pretty warm that. Thought it was suppossed to be cold and wet? My milkbottle legs might get a tan at this rate lol!

    Cheers.image

    NM - random 'thing' man.

  • Another forcast (put Glasgow in the search)  http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/HOME/

    Now who do we believe?

  • Hiya

DCB - I've used Brooks adrenaline GTS7s too and loved them. I wrecked 4 pairs through overuse. They do also do a brooks adrenaline trail show. I bought a pair for running in the woods around me and I find them just the same as the road version. I got mine from run and become in edinburgh.

Molly - the Highland cross goes through the estate where I used to work. I've done it 3 times and it it very hard, but also good fun. However...it's not easy to get into. There is a strict entry limit and you really don't have a scooby of getting a team in which has never done it before. If you fancy an event just like it, I did the Corrietairack Challenge this year (google it) and it was great. I think it's harder that the highland cross cos it goes up and up and up and up!!! There;s not such a limit on numbers on this one.

My dog is hopping a bit less today - the anti- inflammatories must be  working. No running for a while thoug. I think I'm going to declare myself done with the cold and start running again tomorrow. woo hoooo!!!

Good luck to anyone racing this weekend!

  • Haha, DCB, I believe the one that says:  Rain, Rain & More Rain
Sounds about right for Scotland in September (or any other month of the year to be honest lol!)

  • I have applied for FLM but may do this if rejected for that....Its guaranteed for FLM rejects isnt it..?
