Yes, I'll be going, my local half but first time running it. I'm hoping for sub 2hrs but we'll see, training times are probably more like 2.05, Sheffield earlier this year was 2.09 so either way it should be a PB, let's hope it doesn't rain like last year!!
I'm plodding out 11 miles in around 1.40 so a bit of work to do yet!! I have heard a lot of people say they've managed PB's at Worksop so the course can't be that slow (once you've got the initial hills out of the way!) 1.38.50 is a really good time, what are you looking for on the day?
well i`ve looked at the hill profile of the course an am not really sure but i think maybe with any improvement in fitness i might be able to get a 1.35 with a top top effort. i found that if i particularly want to get a good time thinking that after i`ll always be able to say i did something especially the ben nevis run i did. for that i told myself pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.
You'll be back at the finish a lot sooner than me then!! we ought to try and keep this thread alive till the run, it is only 3 weeks away after all and there must be other people on this sight that are running it...
The atmosphere is usually pretty good at the start and is generally well supported. I think the heavy rain put off a lot of supporters last year but fingers crossed the weather will be a bit kinder this year
Last year was my first half at the age of 45, I ran with partner so time was very slow. Now on 1:46 for half so looking around 1:45 - 1:50. I promised myself not to repeat the same races but close to sheffield and it a nice half. Yes it was wet last year but at least we were cool. Think anyone would enjoy this. yes a few hills but nothing really demanding. Some good support around the course.
I'm looking at doing this one, my mate says its not "flat" but you can still run a fast time on it, ran a pb last Sunday in Swinton on an undulating course (1:22:00) so I'll be looking at going faster than that, hoping for 1:21:13 or better.
I can't ever imagine the day I'll be running a 1.22 half, that's very impressive, like I've already said, I'll be pleased when I break 2hrs!! I've just invested in a Forerunner 305 so hopefully I can keep a more accurate account of pace etc and up the speed a bit.
I've also heard that although the run does have a few hills, it is a good course to run a PB and at least there's some nice scenery to take in on the way round!
So if there's anyone else on here running this and planning on their first sub 2hrs, I would welcome the support along the way, it can get tough pushing yourself along (although the Garmin is proving a worthwhile investment) it's not the vocal abuse you sometimes need along the way!!!
Dear friend - just enjoy it ahh - WE 'd just love for you to run with us - some we race, some we just plod for pure fun to feel good
if you did, i could ( If you wished ) as i was running TALK you through everything about running - all those bits the eye does'nt see
getting rid of everything negative and make it positive -
Making it a clinical, methodical - effortless run
one year Hull track race was on the day before Worksop and we clocked 107 lap marathon in 5.03 - and on the way home next day we clocked Worksopn in 2.12
luck forward to seeing you at worksop mick im going for a sub 2 so if im anywere near you will give you a shout and plod along for a while depending on how my legs feel ( the hills cant be as bad as mansfield )
This is my PB course so yes it's definitely possible to PB here. I think having it in the end of October helps weather wise and I don't remember any major hills. The first 2 miles are up but the last 2 are down as it's the same road.
It's a nice race that I'm looking forward to doing again this year.
Like you say, the first couple of miles are uphill but after that it's not so bad, I'm really looking forward to it, apparently I'm number 161 according to the web site, doesn't look like there's that many entered yet?
Hi, I ran this last year (it was only my second race) - it is described as gently undulating - it felt decidedly hilly to me. Great scenery and lovely atmosphere. Look at for the Llama farm at the entrance to Clumber park - bit sureal! Good luck to all - I'll be the one - same as last year - puffing and panting my way round in about 2.18. I'm always just happy to finish. Some of the hills seemed so steep that they made me laugh.

I have entered for this event and recently got a PB of 1hr38 but I cannot see me achieving this at this event due to the hills.
So it it possible to get a pb at this event?

We'll be seeking sub 2 hours -
but it will depend on how Abingdon marathon goes the week before
OH and NO it's NOT flat - But there are far, far worse
