Did a recce of the course yesterday in the car and it felt fairly hilly to me. Seemed like longer than 10k too although I know it isn't! Ah well, should be fun.
Go for Brentwood Julia! Although I understand that is hilly too. I've got no excuse not to enter that as it practically starts outside my front door.
Go for it Julia. Brentwood's a great race - first mile or so downhill (be careful not to go too mad) and the finish is uphill but it's not too bad in between. It's a big race so there's always plenty of other runners around you which is nice.
Thank you for your encouragement! Went on a club run today and 3 other people have said (in Capital letters) YES WE ARE DEFINITELY DOING THE BRENTWOOD HALF, so I am too! Hurrah, to think this time last year I was 3 stone heavier and would have laughed if you'd said I'd be a runner
Edinburgh will be by my fourth marathon and Brentwood my fourth or fifth half, I forget which! There's nothing like pencilling new races into the diary!
Good luck on Sunday everyone, I'm really looking forward to it.
Am entered in Edinburgh. Hopefully it'll be my fourth mara of '09 (aim to get into double figures for the year next year). Need to get a year planner and start making some plans!! Haven't entered Brentwood yet but almost certainly will do. Hope to be fitter by then - assuming I can get the injuries sorted and get training properly again.
Still in two minds about Sunday. To add to the race weary legs (and the fact that I'm not supposed to be running at all) I've got a cold and have had a really horrible sinus-related headache for a couple of days.
Julie - Beachy was hard this year as I got cramp in my left quad and my right calf from half mark. My hubby wanted to do a walk on the Monday 11.5 miles of of hills. Ascent was 2074ft and descent was 2075ft on the South Downs Way just outside Brighton. Sunday is going to be a recovery run with my friend Tina.
I was pleased with my time - went a bit too fast early on and then struggled between 7 and 9. Not quite a PB but 40 seconds quicker than last year so I can't complain.
The weather was perfect in the end and the goody bag was pretty good as well. Well done to Billericay Striders for putting on another good race. Hope everyone else enjoyed the day.
I know the feeling Myles - I went off far too fast and subsequently had a stitch until about 7k! Still did 42:57 which is only forty seconds off my PB though.
Was impressed with the organisation of the race - nice little set up. Will definitely return - at least I know where the hills are next time!
Julia - I was wearing a white cap with a yellow jacket round my waist. It took us 1hr 11mins, which is 15 mins slower than my 10k pb. What time did you do?
