thankyou Chilli, ive been lucky at GNR for the last couple of years to start right near the front but its not my quickest route either really. Bedford will be a good test, looking forward to the downhill bit at mile 9.
Further to my previous reply, for further clarification I should point out that I DON'T know Hashette THAT well
My reputation has been saved
GNR was incredibly slow for me, mostly because I started so far back that actual running was impossible for quite a way, and I don't think I managed a decent pace until at least half way. Besides, the momentos at Bedford sare waaaaay better - I still use the 2006 running belt, people at work are going to miss the 2007 calendar, and the sweatshirt we're promised for this year comes in several sizes, so possibly small enough for runners to actually wear, rather than putting it up in the garden as a gazebo
Whether I actually run will depend on my self-assessment of my stamina. I've been doing mainly short spurts (ie 5kms) on the treadie of recent weeks. But I'll put in a long session this weekend to see how I manage over 8 or 9 miles.
I've also decided that I don't want to ever race in foul weather again - after all, it's supposed to be fun, as opposed to Special Forces training. So, monsoon conditions and I'm out.
Usual suspects then Tim I know I've met you but I have an appalling memory for faces. I'll be in a Royston Runners top (being good as half the club will be there, so not a shred of Fetchieness in sight) so give me a shout if you see me.
Brooks, are you doing Luton again on Sunday? There's another aftermath at the Leicester Arms on Sunday if you fancy joining us.
Interesting how we describe ourselves Tim. My description of me to someone (apart from the running kit) was 45 year old woman who thinks she's 25, moaning for England about being cold and plodding around at around 9 minute mile pace.
JUST ENTERED ... WILL BE MY 1ST HALF.... I AM AIMING FOR 10 MINUTE MILES >>>REALISTIC GOAL 2HR 15MIN... CAN ANY OTHER PLODDERS CONFIRM HOW UNDULATING THIS COURSE IS !! THANKS ROB !!
GOOD LAD... IM ALWAYS WONDERING IF I'LL FINISH LAST IN FUN RUNS !! THEN QUIETLY PLEASED WITH MYSELF AFTER PASSING A COUPLE AT THE BACK !! SEE YA SOON !
Don't think of how many are in front of you in the race itself. Focus on the 99% of the population who are behind you, inasmuch as they're not capable of the distance.
I am unable to run due to injury. I would not like my place to go to waste and have been informed by the organisers that they are accepting transfers on the day and there is a number transfer desk at the race HQ (up to 9:30am ). Please contact me on this forum if you would like this place.
Hello, is anyone travelling up from London on Sunday? I gather from previous posts that the race HQ is some way from Bedford Station. Does anyone know from past experience whether taxis to and from Bedford station are readily available? Thanks.
Must admit not been to Bedford station on a Sunday but generally is well served by Taxis and I am sure they know the event is going on and that is the best option for business on Sunday morning !! It is a couple of miles to HQ. Wootton is a Village just to the west of Bedford.
Lets hope it isn't too icy this Sunday and the race doesn't suffer the fate of the cancelled Luton Marathon from last weekend due to a car crashing on ice !!
Thanks Brooks, I actually just found out that there is someone from my running club offering a lift from London so hopefully won't have to worry about the trains and taxis. Fingers crossed there's no ice situation though!
Today, I did what is my normal training session at the gym. This comprises a 5km run on the treadmill in sub-25 mins, followed by a stint on the static cycle (today 20 mins, some days 25 mins).
I can't help thinking that a diet of indoor tempo(ish) 5kms aren't desperately good preparation for a 13.1 mile unndulating race outdoors.
But ce sera sera. How hard can it be? Just four (and a bit) of my gym runs back-to-back lol.
I was one of the many lined up for the Luton marathon I am looking for a place in this one after been bitterly disappointed on sunday.
The race organisers are allowing transfers so if anyone has a place they are not using i would love to take it off your hand (race entry fee would be refunded)

Hash
I'm 6 foot, big barrel build, razor cut hair, bearded (used to be just goatee). In short:- FORTY SEVEN, FIFTEEN STONE, FIT - NOT.
Maybe have this printed on the back of my running shirt, possibly with a cheeky FRONT OF YOU line added lol.

Lift now sorted. Thanks Geoff.
