  • Daniel Craig or Bourne, who cares.. they both look buff topless image

Wasn't into Bond until DC did Casino. think he's developed the character better than previous actors but I've liked DC's work before.

    Impressive dvd list Chi.

I like sci fi (Dr Who, Alien, Predator but not Star Trek!), action, gritty drama, independent stuff and the odd chick flick. I can't do scary films either same reason as PO. Can't do musicals, Mamma Mia etc <spits>

I don't like ones that are 'real' like Schindler's List and Cry Freedom - too upsetting but I guess that's the point image It's not that I don't want to think of those issues, quite the reverse, but I want a film to uplift me. Does that sound shallow?

  • Oh yeah - how could I forget! Alien/Aliens/3/etc..

    The best movies ever!

hmmm.. well I suppose it's not really shallow if you are aware of that.. or is that like one of those riddles frmo Kung Fu? (Have the 1st series of that too - and the entire Monkey boxset..

I like the true to life stuff but prefer to limit it too cos some of it is just really raw and upsetting.

  • I like the real ones because inevitably, it's someone who has done something great - although obviously not all the autobiographies flooding out now.

I like them because it inspires me...  image

  • I like Murder Myteries - Agatha Christie style.. lots of old fashioned pomp and nonsense.. nothing like opening a bottle of wine and getting hammered watching them. Have watched Death on the nile 3 times and still haven't made it to the end!
  • I like the wine part.

    Mmmmmm

    Wine.....

Well, it's my last night sitting at home doing nothing, so I may as well get wine!  image

  • lol - glad to have had such an influential impact! lol

You gonna stay a forumite when you get back to SA?

  • Will see I guess.

If my job is well boring, then probably.  But if not - doubtful.

I only go on during other people's time - so evenings and weekends are mine.

    MINE I TELL YOU

    MINE!

  • Yeah PO, I'd read about it in a book fine. Because it's factual. But sometimes on screen it seems to devalue the meaning a bit, or doesn't do it justice. I dunno, hard to explain it.

Alien 1 was the best. I first watched this on a camping trip. We were staying in a hostel, bunk beds etc. My friend in the bed below was scared sh1tless by the film. I don't think it helped me chucking a wet flannel onto her face after light's out! imageimage Still makes me laugh!

Love Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Curse of the Golden Flower too.

Ag Christie - requires concentration Chi! Not like the murder drama series on the beeb where it's the highest paid actor who's always the killer, doh!

Lots of LOL's to both of those posts!
  • Siance - yeh sometimes the movies can be a massive let down.  I really did enjoy Finding Neverland though.  I like those types that sometimes show you your own mortality.

Agreed on the books as well.  I think Lance Armstrong and Nelson Mandela were the best though.  Mandela's had me in tears really.  To think what he went though and how mean most of the people were to him and yet he still came out filled with love and hope is terribly inspiring.

I do like them autobiographies  image

  • Also, I remember watching Scooby Doo as a kid and initially, you try to guess who the baddie is.

Then I realised that the baddie was always the first person they met.

So then I would watch it just to prove my point and get all exasperated when I was right  image

  • LOL - i NEVER NOTICED THAT!

    oops

well I watch Scooby with my daughter so will have to amaze her with my omnisience from now on! image

  • Yes

I hope it's still like that!

Just goes to show - I am too intelligent for this world

    *sigh*

  • LOL!!! Oh I see.. well I know - I have to talk to myself... only way I get intelligent conversation!
  • I do that.

I also advise myself in the mirror and write letters to myself

    Handy

  • yeah - you know which ones to ignore..
  • Well yeh.  On account of the big red letters I scribble on the front
  • Bond - he has an Aston Martin and speaks proper English. Bourne can't even remember his name so has clearly suffered from all those blows to the head. I agreed that Bond is going in the Bourne direction though (hell if I had spelt it Direction that could even have been the name of the next film)
  • you hit the nauil on tyhe head there Brooks - the director has directed the last Bond in a similar way to the way the Bourne films were directed..
  • image Dur it's the same director image

p.s. they are making two hobbit films at the moment one on the book and one bridging the gap between the hobbit and LOTR's sorry outing myself as a geek. image

  • Is it? I never looked.. well that makes a whole lot of sense then..

Good news on the Hobbit front.. wuold like to get my daughter to read it so a film will help..

  • Haven't seen it yet but Mark kermud off the radio said it was at the weekend.

For the Hobbit the chap from pan's Labyrinth is doing the Hobbit itself and Peter Jackson is doing the other film based on stories between that and LOTR's

  • So is there a release date for either of these or are they still just very much work in progress?
  • Work in progress think I read a release date but wouldn't stick to it. It's not exactly going to be easy doing that.
  • well something to look forward to..

apatr from goin to see Bond again tomorrow evening image

  • Tought I'd catch up on the thread and been enjoying the posts.

PO, repsect to you for all that training, thats immense! I train in Shotokan myself, 1st kyu, all being well grading for 1st dan next summer. Agree about the H&S watering things down but still get so much from the sport. Like you my sensei is a kata man and while I prefer kumite i very much agree you need all 3 aspects to be a true karate-ka. Good luck with your training when you return home.

Chi Runner, great DVD collection, and not dissimilar to mine! Have Karate Kid, No Retreat No Surrender and Best of teh Best box sets, both Transporter and Kill BIll films, plenty Seagal and Van Damme (kickboxer and bloodsport are classics), loads of Jet Li. Eagerly awaitig 5th Dec for Transporter 3 image

  • Oh yeah - Kill Bill - great dvds!

I saw the trailer for Transporter 3 before the Bond movie - didn't enjoy 1 or 2 tbh but 3 looks fantastic!

Goin to see Bond again tonight so will watch out for the trailer - different cinema this time. 1st time was ni a cinema where the screen was so immense I had to quickly look left to right to take everything in! Looking forward to just being able to see it all tonight.

I think in terms of MA - Matt Damon trained in Kali and Escrima for the Bourne movies and Craig seems to have done some training in Krav or similar..?

  • I saw QOS twice as well, once with gf once with kids. Was no worse or better secondf second time round but still enjoyed. biggest problem is it suffers in comparision to CR.

I thought I read somewhere that they used Krav for the Bourne films? Could be mistaken though. There was a lot of coverage in the mrtail arts mags about the Batman films using the Kensei Fighting Method but as a MA it left em cold and couldn't see what fuss was about.
