  • 3 miles easy todayimage 15th will be my last LSR.

Lil, nice run you should be well under the 4 on the day. I dont think its so much as a hill just a small incline, on the day on the run into the finish you will not even notice it.

El, I have a pair of nike shorts with a zip pocket in the back and I can fit 4 high5 gels into it no problems and with it getting warm it is easier to take. Looks like the waterstations are every 3 miles and its bottled water, I wish someone would inform the Belfast Marathon its still using cups and the sponser is a water company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...........................

Club night tomorrow night for some sprint sessions, take care.

  • Hi Lil - well done on the long run! My tummy is always a bit strange after a long run. I don't feel like eating much after a long run, for about 2 hours, but then about 4 hours later I get ravenous!

El Escoces - I recently bought an arm band with room for 3 gels. I've been using it in training, I plan to use 4, sowill put 3 in the carrier and one pinned to my shorts.

Rest day for me today after a slow 4 miles yesterday when my legs felt dreadful!

    Take care!

  • Hi all, just found this thread, I'm also running Barcelona, it'll be my first marathon, training has been tough but glad all the long runs are behind me now!
  • Hello again folks,

Easy pace 10k tonight in 50 mins. Another windy night out there. Feeling a little tickle at the back of my throat so taken a couple of paracetamol. The gels i use come in packets that are about the size of the palm of my hand i take it you guys are using smaller packs.

     Welcome aboard Ed.

  • hi all

Training going ok, no injuries just snow reducing the distance I'm  running at the moment . One last long run to do at the weekend and then tapper runs the rest of the month.

El Escoces- You could use grey duct tape to stick them on to your shorts or on a belt.  I have a belt from decathlon with 2 zip pockets and a bottle pouch, I will be using it in barcelona. The belt is comfortable but i find that the bottle bounces if carried at the back so put it to the side, could fill the pouch with gels.

  • Club night last night ran with two club mates and did 4x3 sets of 3x600m sprints (300m uphill 300m downhill) with 600m jog between sets. Hard work and can still feel it in my legs this morningimage. 12 miles easy this afternoon, got a room to paper firstimage.

Hi Ed are you also Ed on Fetch? I am Firesac on Fetch. Big welcome you still aiming for sub 3?

El follow the link to the high5 gels.

  • Hello again folks,

A frisky 11 miles last night in 1.30. If i can keep to that pace on the day i will be very happy. Calf muscle on the right leg felt a bit tight at the end but seems okay on the walk in to work today. Going to rest up tonight. Tomorrow tennis and then on Saturday the last LSR. Those mid week, mid distance runs after work on a dark and windy night can really make a man question his sanity. Ed your first marathon and your looking to go sub 3! I can only imagine your coming from a solid sports background. Thanks for the tips and advice on the gels. Not long now folks!
  • Hello,

late arrival to this thread, another entrant coming from Belfast so at least there are to of us No Pain.

Have done 20m long run last week and 18 wk before averaging about 30-40/ wk since xmas, 14 miles last nigh, feeling sore today.

Tapering starts on monday, how many long should tapering runs be?

also this climb around 10 k sounds interesting?

  • Karlos this is my taper and the week after before I start again for the Belfast Marathon. My last four weeks have been. 51, 58, 52 and 64 miles. The 20 below is next Sunday with every run after that being hard  tempo or easy.

    203686Rest5123683Rest226.2Rest3355rest

    El nice run.

  • That should have been: 20, 3, 6, 8, 6, Rest, 5, 12, 3, 6, 8, 3, Rest, 2, 22.6, Rest, 3, 3, 5, 5, Rest.
  • Welcome aboard Karlos. What sort of time are you aiming for in Barcelona?
  • Club night ran with a fast young gun tonight,  warm up then 5 sets of 500m sprints+200m jog +300m sprints then 2 min recovery then after the 5 sets 4x 100m, cooldown total 6.64 miles did better then I thought I would and legs feel ok.

Karlos, Where do you do your 20's ?

  • Hi guys, hoping for anything under 4hrs, having doing reasonable milage so fingers crossed. What time you aiming for NP?

20 miler was east b fast, knock dual carriage way, shaws bridge, balmoral, lisburn rd, ormeau and back on the dual carriage, came in about 2hr 50.

    Looking forward to barc!
  • 4 miles on the treadmill today easy.

aiming as close to 3 hrs as possible, I run at the other side at Carrickfergus not long now last 20 on Sunday.

  • Greetings fellow Taperers!

Last long run this morning. 30.5K in 2.37 run at marathon pace.

Really nice day for running with only really a bit of a headwind in the last 7k. Bit of a niggle with that calve muscle again at about 25k, it feels a little tender. I hoping that with now easing up into the taper it just sorts itself out. Also found some thinner packet gels and can now fit four into my back pocket so good news there.

Feels good to put the hard training behind me and am looking forward to the race now

Tennis tomorrow so we´ll see how that goes.

  • 6.14 Tempo this morning splits:  07:28 06:57 07:13 06:34 06:57 06:48 00:51 Avg 06:58 so happy with that. Last LSR tomorrow 21/22 miles then 2 weeks of taper madness and lots of speed stuff.

Karlos, Carrickfergus and Whieabbey area along the coast and up into the hills.

El nice last LSR mate, enjoy your tennis.

  • nice one El, rest today and sunday, final run on monday evening, i'll be in touch in next week guys,

    good luck!

  • 20.44m (02:38:48) This morning felt good and legs feel great very happy with the Split Summaryimage

  • Good running NP. I did a 10km race today to test my speed, was leading all the way and the garmin clocked me at sub 37 for 10km but there was still 600m to the finish and I got overtaken right at the end, it really annoys me that some race organisers can't get a simple thing like measuring 10km right!
  • Nice run Ed looks like you have no problems with the speed.

First rest day for me tomorrow in a few weeks and the taper time, I plan on every other run between now and Barcelona being a tempo run. My aim is 3hours or under. looking forward to it now.

  • I think there's a sub 3 hour pacer at Barcelona? See you at the start line near him!
  • I will have a Fetch everyone vest on its black with red vertical stripes under the arms. I will try and stay as close to him as possible from the start.image
  • Nice long run there NP. Enjoy your rest day tomorrow i think you´ve earned it!

Ed that´s a cracking 10k time and getting second place into the bargain.

Cross training with tennis today. Legs felt a little sluggish after the 30k yesterday but all in all no complaints.

    Rest day tomorrow.

  • You won't be able to miss me in my union jack top and headband! Although I'll be a bit behind you guys.

Did a 10 mile race yesterday which ran along side a 20m. It's one week too close for me to do the 20m so settled on the 10. Hadn' t beat my PB of 1:26 from Salisbury last year, come about as far as a couple of minutes but hadn't quite managed it. Until yesterday!image My gun time was 1:24:43 but my chip time was...............

1:23:53!!! imageimage Still grinning now! I though if I was going to do it it'll be within a few seconds not clearing it by 2 mins! image

Hopefully that'll keep me buzzing all the way to Barcelona! Can't believe it's almost here!

Anyway, well into the taper now. Really start to notice it this week when I keep wanting to run further!

  • Lil, nice 10 milesimage  Will keep a look out for you. First rest day today in 3 weeks and feel I should have run, hope to be buzzing as well come race day.
  • 6.14 miles tempo avg 06:53 splits: 07:10, 06:43 ,07:02 ,06:35, 06:57, 06:59, 00:48. image

legs a littleheavy from the weekend but still happy with that.

  • Hello again,

Tonight 10k in 47.08. Running above marathon pace. Nice night with a little breeze perfect for running. Plenty of runners out night. NP everybody is different but they always say it´s important to have rest days to let the body repair and recharge.

Lil well done on the ten miler.
