Problems with Garmin 305

I am having a problem with my garmin 305 I am trying to run the updates on the training centre, the updater can't find my garmin, it is asking me to ensure the interface option is set to garmin or host mode, can anyone tell me where I do this on the forerunner?

Is the 305 syncing with your computer otherwise? Sometimes when my comp can't find my Garmin I just give the metal contact points a clean & that sorts it, but not sure if that's any use here.
