1:15 is still a very good time, are you looking forward to the marathon? how you finding the training? It's a new lease on life the running, and have really developed a real passion for it more notably over the past 6 months . wish i'd done it sooner, i'm 22 now and feel like a kid again in terms of energy. Hope the weight loss is going well for you . Today was soo close to a sub 47 10k, well 6.2mile (typo with the k on previous post, if it wasn't for stopping to cross the road, i'm sure i'd of run it in that time, but never the less, really enjoying the running.
No charity - this one's purely for the love of life.
I've bled my family and colleagues dry with the GNR last October and so I wanted to give them all a rest so when I do London next year I can sting 'em then
I'm finding the training tough. I've made a few mistake with fuelling. The weight loss has slowed up, I just can't do the big runs on so little food since I'm still carting nearly 16 stone about. I'll be back on it after the mara, honest. Just an 18 miler, 10 miler and the big 20 to go and then, I hope, I'll have the confidence I need on the big day.
You know, there's lots of big 'losers' (of weight!) knocking about the forum. I think RW needs to coral us all and feature us in the mag.
good stuff mate, 8 and a half stone in a year is fenominal, once i hit 16 stone it did slow up for me, but the fact your sticking at it is great, i know myself how hard it was to lose the weight but i feel amazing for it! the last year has been the best, meeting my girlfriend, fitting into clothes without having to order from specialist shops. best reaction though was the parents when i went back to scotland, bloody priceless. I know i'll keep it off and cant wait for the next one!!!! what time are you hoping to do edinburgh in, when are you heading up?
im in as well. my first major race apart from the toughguy in 07. Im hoping to do sub-1hr, but im struggling with a knee injury and can only run for 30mins on the treadmill at the moment (thats because of fitness, not the knee. Havent been able to train properly for weeks!) I really hope i can get my fitness levels up and put in a good effort for the people that have sponsored me.
Does anyone know if and when they send out any information? Theres nothing on the website except that it starts at 10.
Do hope my pack arrives, my pack for the Reading half-mara never arrived, so had to go and collect it the day before, couldn't face the stress of collecting it on the day.....
If anyone wants to buy my race number off me for face value then let me know. I decided to do a half marathon a few weeks ago and have lost all motivation for another race so soon!
Amazing that some guys are doing the Wokingham Half Marathon the day before. I did look at that event with the rescheduled date but i'm not fit enough to race on consecutive days yet!
Really looking forward to this event now as it'll be my next "big" event after the Reading HM.
Yep im doing this one as well, and like some of the others im doing the rescheduled Wokingham 1/2 the day before, wasn't planned that way but hey ho should be fun (I hope!!!)
Good luck all and I hope the weathers good for both days.... Jog on!
i did the british 10 k no chip timing 20,000 runners i think and i wasnt to keen to do it again,so i welcomed this bupa race it was fantastic ,i just did the marathon and the route is fab ,at the start of this one you hang about in front of buckingham palace.
this was a smooth race last year, and hopefully the rain won't be as severe this one! I'd say no rain, but, as already mentioned, it IS a bank holiday Monday!
Neil - Great - this race looks fantastic. You should be able to mail me off my profile now, if you can't can you drop me a mail with some contact details and we can sort something out: NEUV1@Hotmail.com
I did this last year, it was my first race and a great experience! Since done two other 10Ks, but this is my first even in 6 months and I've done no training for it So am lacing the shoes up on the weekend to get some miles under my belt My 10k PB now is 1:14 but I am not planning on doing any better than that what with my lack of training. Just looking forward to my 'anniversary' run
It was fantastic last year despite the rain, and the route - as you've all said - is great. Especially if you're a plodder, as you have extra time to take it all in
This is on my list this year too. Did the British 10k last year, remember rain and disappointment but as I work in London the scenery wasn't a surprise
Opted for Bupa 10k this year (slightly nicer route) with the aim of a sub-60 but overweight (how much do people lose? Well done the big losers.. I've lost nothing since started over a year ago and am supposed to have by now!)... and over-40 .. all my 10ks come in around 1hr 6/1hr 8 - with my halves at 2.5hrs! Would LOVE to get this one under 60.. am running this by myself though.. and not very good at pushing alone.... any tips on how to achieve it are welcome
join a running club they are fab you will find people with your pace ,i started 3 years ago and couldnt even run on a treadmill .i just did the london marathon .when i started i was 16 stone now 13 and a 30 waist i am 6f 2, i lost most of my wieght running over long distance
you just have to keep running tracy it will happen
Hi Tracy,if you want a running partner for this one i will run with you,i normally do around the 1hr ish mark so a gentle plod.Im sure a with a little pushing and we could knock off at 4mins off your time.If you would like to naboulton@yahoo.com Norm or facebook Norman Boulton.
Hi andybrook, I tried a running club but I was disappointed to be in the 'slow group' and doing 4 miles in 55 mins killed me (due to slowness!), but the woman with me never yet completed 4miles, and was so proud! I didn't go back again . Well done on the Marathon!
Slow Plodder, thanks kindly for your offer. 1hr ish may be a slow plodder to you.. it would be speedy for me (just back from Nun's Run which was meant to be 4 miles, seems was 4.8 with time of 49.44, but yet to check chip time). Will email you if you are in similar area. Target is sub 60. Thank you.
Does anyone know when the race packs are being sent out or is it just me who hasn't recieved theirs yet?? I know its a few weeks away but thought i'd just check.
Had A look on the website and there is not much info on there, only apart from the start time and what channel its being shown on.

MizOhnoooo!!!
Neil - Is that number still up for grabs? Would be a shame to waste it!!
I wouldn't recommend the British 10K to anyone. I believe this year you can pay extra to get a timing chip.
Hopefully this will be much better, I may have recovered from Sunday's exertions by then!

Many Thanks
Has anyone had their race pack though yet?
Am I being premature?
PS - IF and it is a big IF, Reading make it to the play-off final at Wembley it will be on the same day as this race.
That'll be interesting for anyone sat near me at the match in the afternoon!!
