  • RedA also - Hi gmike. Looks like the weather's warming up for next weekend! image
  • I'm in Blue B, and looking at about 60 mins.

    Got my pack at last!!

  • Slow Plodders a Red C but he started on the thread but isn't here now - think he's lurking. He's my pacer to try and get me sub-60!

gmike (what's the g for? image ) "only Great Bentley Half, Bury 20, Paris Marathon and a sprint triathlon since then so hopefully I can dig out my quick legs for this one" - 10k will be a walk (or run) in the park for you!!!

didn't realise jubilee was out, will check travel route T-dog - after my 10 mile challenge at Great Baddow tomorrow (god help me!)

  • Hi Andyp, I'm a Green A and looking at 59 image
  • Hi Tracy

Maybe I could start further back then and we can go for a sub-60 - egging each other on!!

  • Is this the same as the Bupa Great Capital Run on July 26th? (I can't see any other London Bupa runs on their website!). Will there be many other charity runners or is it mainly a pro-runners kind of a run???
  • Mr KMr K ✭✭✭

    Hello & welcome Liz,

No it`s not the same as the Great Capital Run.

I, like you looked for that race on the event listing but couldn`t find it - I`m sure it will be posted up soon.

The `Great` events are filled with all sorts of runners.

  • Thanks! I've never done anything like this before but really want something to aim for in getting fitter after years of laziness so reckon if I raise some money for charity I will feel obliged to see it through (and hopefully get fit and enjoy myself in the process!)

  • gmikegmike ✭✭✭

This one is on www.bupa10000.co.uk Liz ... different event to the Capital Run.

Tracy - the 'g' goes back to when I got my first internet and they wouldn't let me have 'mikeg' as my id so I had 'gmike' instead .. used it ever since. Always use it as my forum names etc and I've got it on some of my kit image

I notice the info re Jubilee line in the race magazine they sent ... page 15

"Please be aware the Jubilee Line will be suspended between Stratford and Green Park on Bank Holiday Monday"

.. not sure whether that means it skips the stations inbetween or it's shut all together???

St James's is only a five minute walk anyway.

I'll be up at the Baddow 10 tomorrow .. not running just riding up there to support fellow Benfleet RCers .. I should be poodling round the course on my bike and at the finish ... Red/White cycle top with gmike on the collar or hi vis rain coat on an old battered silver racer .. That'll be me!

    image

  • Didn't know you were coming to Chelmsford tomorrow Tracy. If I wasn't going to the IOW I would come to support, I work in Chelmsford. I did this 4 years ago, it was my first race. Bit of an incline at the start but if you survive that you'll be fineimage

I think we need to change around Bond Street on 25th, shouldn't add much time.

Liz - this race is 25th May www.london10000.co.uk/

  • Gmike: Thought maybe it was a typo when you created the profile image Thanks re. tube lines, seeing as I’ve offered to meet T-dog for the journey, would be useful if I checked! Jubilee’s nearly always down at weekends. Means it’s shut for that part of journey. You will spot me tomorrow.. red Nike Run top (figured red makes me go faster image ) You’d have to be there late to see me at the Finish image

Hey Mr K.. What’s with the Great Events? Are they anything special? I looked at the Great Event site just now and it’s 26 July but not confirmed so guess they can’t post it yet.

Liz, running gets to us all, whatever pace and fitness level. Good Luck!

T-dog – heard it’s errrrrm… challenging.. had lots of support on the forum, to enter.. think they are grateful they won’t be the last to finish! My 10 mile times is about 2 hrs and last finisher last year was 2.11! Get the picture gmike? Liz, that should help encourage you image

Andyp, am running with Slow Plodder to try for the sub-60, although not hopeful, but that's why I entered this one. You are welcome to join us. Think realisitically is about 1:02. Let me know.

  • Hmmmm if the Great Capital isn't open for registration, can anyone recommend a good (flat!) run sometime this summer, for a first-timer like me?!

  • gmikegmike ✭✭✭

Tracy - they reckon red is statistically the fastest colour so there should be a pb on the way image

Had a really good run at Baddow last year ... my one and only ten miler to date! ... great course and chip timed with mass warm up at start courtesy of Essex FM. Great atmosphere image

  • image It didnt work for St Albans last week - was very undulating and I believe less so than Baddow! Yes, I believe it's a nice run.. can't remember how I got talked into it. It's a challenging course? Or perhaps it's a challenging route with the extra weight I'm carrying image hoping the undulating will work my glutes!

Have done a couple of halves (first one was my big achievement last October), 2nd Brentwood in March - always around 2hrs 35! Southend I'm hoping for 1:59 in june! Two halves in two weeks is my Charity challenge this year (with no PBs planned!).

Am only just getting out of 'complete plodder' stage, to 'slight runner' stage.. heading towards my 'paula stage' by 2012 image

  • Liz,

usually the London runs are pretty flat.. I did the British 10k last year (it seems to be Bupa vs British), that was relatively flat and they may still have entries. Is in July.

Generally the London ones are. You might want to consider adidas 5k womens challenge - have signed up to that to help a friend start running. That's Hyde Park in September and is ermm.... women image

  • Hello all

    I'm RED A #752.

I was aiming to go sub 40 mins but I don't feel like I've fully recovered from the FLM so I probably won't manage that!

    Good luck everyone

    Nick

  • Liz - I've contacted BUPA several times re: Great Capital and in summary, the race may not be in Hyde Park as usual due to other events.  I asked them again is it definitely going ahead, and this was their response (as at 14/04/09):-

    Thank you for your email.

<div align="left"><div align="left">The event is going ahead but the date and location are still to be 100% confirmed so we cannot open the entries until this has been sorted.  <div align="left"><div align="left"><div align="left"><div align="left">info@greatrun.org <div align="left"><a href="mailto:info@greatrun.org" title="mailto:info@greatrun.org"></a><div align="left"><div align="left">If you email them Liz, I'd be really interersted to see if it is still going ahead and what their response is about when the ballot opens as I'm really keen to re-run this to achhieve new PB.
  • Hiya - right I'll get onto this one today, as it seems to be more favoured than the British London on 12th July (plus gives me a few more weeks training time) so will let you know what they say.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Tracy

Sounds like a good idea - i'm sure we can get each other round to 59:59!!

I did a 5 mile race in Marlow last weekend in 47:30 so I'll be close to the hour I hope.

  • Hi Andyp, Fab, Slow Plodder has very long legs image He should be on here some point. I have very short legs. We make a good finish photo image You are welcome to join us... am travelling with T-Dog so could arrange to meet at a tube station? Will you be recognisable by your badge? 10miler just now means it's not impossible for 59:59. I'll love you and Slow Plodder for ever if you can carry me through sub-60. Would be an achievement!

Just back from Great Baddow 10miler! Am soooo hyper think I'm gonna enter every race I'm available for image

gmike - lovely to 'meet' you! It was very very tough.. but I didn't stop once nor did I finish right at the back! Time was around 1:52, looked for you at the end, but when I last saw you maybe you were going home. The red helped! Will get some more of those image

Does anyone fancy meeting in a pub after the 10K? There's big Weatherspoons in the Mall? Or is that just me that likes to socialise? image I find it strange when people make so much effort and excitement to do these, then just disappear at the end.....

  • gmikegmike ✭✭✭

Well done Tracy .. Excellent run. Good to see you likewise. I was at the finish until 1:45 but the lads wanted to get going. I knew you couldn't be far off but thought I might miss you as we couldn't ride directly back down the course. Glad to get in a last minute wave image. You were looking like you'd just started with a big smile.
I must admit the course didn't look that hilly last year when the sun was shining!
Bit to wet for the club colours to be out today ... I got a proper drenching. We stopped at mile 7 for a while and it chucked it down ... much rather have been running.
Was meant to be doing an open water swim this afternoon but it's been cancelled due to the high winds .. secretly hoping it would .. glad to be home in the warm.

I'd be up for a quick J2O afterwards and Weatherspoons do some nice post race grub image

  • Thanks Mike! Can't believe I didn't stop but was all due to Gary who kept me motivating. That Mile 7-8 hill.. somewhere around there.. was the final straw! Southend half should be easy in comparison image

Ah, one of my downfalls.. I smile a lot and people think I'm enjoying it image Think it was more of a grimace at that point - loads of emotion at the end.. was well choked up that I'd done it because I did find it really hard, and choked up the support, or perhaps I was choked up where I'd legged it the last 200m for a spectactular finish - using up reserve take image

Sounds a good idea.. although confess to maybe having a glass of red image

This one is by the Mall:

    http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/pub-details.php?PubNumber=162

Not sure I'll recognise you without your bike!

Anyone else like to join us? I will try bring Slow Plodder and AndyP and T-Dog at least....they don't know yet though image

  • hi all

looking forward to this hope for a pb if i dont get one tomorrow night, i wiil be getting the 630 train out of bristol on monday

i did london marathon it was fab but this race is great to run round london roads closed and less than 10,000 runners

    hope you all run well

  • Liz,

Just a thought, if you want to enter this one and if it's your first.... might be worth going for a Charity place? They may still have some and if this is your first, you should get your friends and family to sponsor you without difficulty image

  • Hi all,

Just found this thread and thought I'd say Hi. This will be my first race and will be in Green A. Training was going well til about 3 weeks ago, was up to 5.5 miles in about 50 mins ish but then my ankle problems started. Been diagnosed with tendonitis and told not to run for 6 weeks so have been crosstraining(boring) to keep myself sane. Ankle feels ok but not going to chance another run before the race. I am running for the BHF so will get round even if i have to walk.

I apologize now to everyone if i get in your way on the day! image

I wish everyone luck and hope the weather holds for us.

    Cheers Lisa
  • Hi Lisa,

Such a bummer when injuries happen and sounds like you were doing so well! I'm in Green A and have a couple of lovely pacers planned to help me get sub-60 image If you're up for it.. give us a shout. Wish you a speedy recovery.

    Tracy

  • Mike,

An open water swim where???!! Apologies, missed that bit due to hyperness of returning from long run and not knowing what to do with myself image

image Have you calmed down yet?

Some of the Ironmen and ladies from club do training swims at Thorney Bay, along Canvey Island seafront and I was due to tag along for my first outing this afternoon.
Been dying to try out my wetsuit since I got it back in February but the waters not 'warm' enough until this time of year.
Planning to do some proper lake swims at Lakeside, Thurrock at beginning of June but until then the sea is free and local.

Hi Nick & Lisa .. Welcome aboard image

  • Right, to avoid disappointment, I've opted for the safe option and secured myself a place on the London British 10k (going to run for Gua Africa)  If the BUPA Capital does open for entries I might go for that one as well. Got to aim high, right?! Be prepared for numerous amateurish questions from me over the next few weeks!
  • Hello all, new to this forum. Will be running the BUPA 10k for the PH Association charity although I am a club runner too. Done a couple of 10ks, one went well and one was not so good so im hoping for a good run next Monday. Can anyone tell me how soon before the start we have to leave all our bags? Im a bit worried about getting cold if stood around for too long without warm clothing on!

     Thanks
