Brentwood Half-Marathon

Entry to this race has closed already and I am desperate to enter.

Does anyone know how to get on a reserve list as there must be people who enter and cannot do it on the day?

If anyone cannot do it can the number be transferred?

I don't know what to do and really need to do this- I have been training for this for the last 6 months and thought I had weeks to go before booking a place.

The numbers from last year are vastly reduced.

I am so upset at the moment. Can anyone help me please?

Many thanks

  • Why not contact the organisers?  They should be able to answer your questions.

I'm not aware that numbers can be transferred - not many races allow this as it's extra admin for them.

As an alternative, there's the Paddock Wood half mara (a quick trip over the bridge) on 5 April.  Have a look on the events tab at the top of the screen and you should find others.

  • They have not answered my email or phone call.

I cannot describe how upset I feel right now.

Thanks for your reply. At least I don't feel like I am talking to myself.
  • Hi, thanks for the reply still not sure what to do and desperate to participate. Pity none of the organisers are getting back to me. Do they just ignore non-entrants?

It has been suggested that numbers may not be transferrable, this is where it would be helpful for an organiser to get back to people.

Just done the Benfleet 15 and went on a similar forum to this for the race and one of the organisers could not have been more helpful. Replied to every query and comment. Karl was so helpful.

  • Why don't you do Gt Bentley ?
  • Roding Valley 1/2 or Paddock Wood?
  • Well the way my old body is packing up on me...image..you may get my place

  • Am looking at Roding Valley as an alternative but had really set my heart on Brentwood.

Not sure why my messages are repeating as I did not do the last message.

Thanks guys for the suggestions but this has really burst my bubble!
  • places still in both

Brentwood always popular - and this year no entries on day. Also they sent out forms way back Sept time last year.

  • I have just been contacted by a very nice organiser at Brentwood and was advised that if anyone could not run then a transfer of number could be made. SO if anyone cannot take part then I will gladly refund their money for the use of their number and will endeavor to do it proud. Please pass this on to anyone who has to back out of this race.

Pretty please with a cherry on top.

  • I got in to Roding Valley but would still desperately love to do Brentwood.
  • i am in the same boat as sister dawn -anyone has to back out would appreciate someone contacting me... I have had response from organisers, they still have loads of places available on the fun run - they combine the numbers for that with the 2,200 for the 1/2 mara. I can't believe all places are gone already.I'm 8th in the reserve list but I don't hold much hope..
  • It looks like I've missed tha boat as well.

Based on what Neil says, they will offer up a few places if the fun run isn't that popular?

  • They have no spare chips for the 1/2 marathon so only chance you have of getting a place is by getting someone else's number and chip. If you are in that position then please contact the organisers and get yourself on the reserve list. Let us know how you get on please.

    I got in to Brentwood!!!!!!!!!!

If you are desperate to get in then call them and ask to go on the reserve list.

It worked for me and there is still 3 weeks to go.

Thanks everyone for your support and see you there.

    ;)
  • Yeah same here, I'm in as well..
  • Hi, how did you do it- on the reserve or did someone give you their place?

    Well done, see you there.

Will have a practice run at Roding Valley first as really didn't think I would get in.

  • I emailed the organiser complaining why the entry number were down on last year, said he would put me on the reserve list and they got in touch this week - pretty much same as you i think- a mate of mine has also got in this way as well, maybe they are cutting the numbers for the fun run...
  • sadly i do know of a couple of people who can't run. ( injury, lack of training etc) who have places and havent notified the organisers.. shame, cos thats a waste.. and any idea  why the race limit is down so much this year ???

  • Things went sadly wrong last year, people were still trying to register at the time the race was about to start so had to be put back for quite a while. This is why there are no entries on the day. They never expected to get the numbers they did so quickly. Also there is a limit to the number of people they can hold at the venue- obviously if it rains they will all want to come inside and so there is a healthy limit.

Please ask the people who cannot participate to contact the organisers or use this page to advertise their number, someone could buy it off them and contact the organiser to change the details of the runner. It is the Brentwood Council that are organising it and their number is on the entry details.

    Good luck on Sunday.

  • good race, i thought the support was excellent, helped me to a PB! that last mile uphill was tough though.
  • The last hill was more than tough it was offensive!  I really thought my legs were going to go and about the only thing that kept me going was knowing that I was in the top 50 and that people in the top 50 don't stop near the end of races (or at least I assume they don't - it's not a position I'm accustomed to!).

I've now taken nearly 5 minutes off my PB in the last 2 half-marathons.  I thought your body was meant to start to deteriorate after 35 (I'm 38).

The marching band at the start was excellent.  Would have been funny to see them try doing the race with us.

  • 1850 finishers. How many DNS I wonder. What was the limit. ?
  • Well done everyone - thats was a good course and the support and marshalling were excellent - plenty of water and jelly babies! So thanks to all the organisers.  I also thought it was cool that as we ran through Blackmore there was a little basket on the village green with some Lucozade drinks in with a sigh saying "Help Yourself Courtesy of Something-or-other Cottage".

I was on the reserve list so count myself lucky that I got a place.  My first half and pleased with the result.  I had been aiming for 1:45, and came in at 1:45:35.

Only one blister, and a pair of aching legs!
