  • Thanks guys - really looking forward to it.  I live in Greenwich so have seen runners go by each year and am finally doing it myself.  In fact in training I've run the whole course now - just not in one go!  Can't wait for those last 200 yards!
  • I think the first time I came down that last hundred yards or so my words were "About bloody time I feel like s**t" wasn't it Gatton?

Until I had crossed the line and was wearing my medal and having my chip taken off my laces.  Then the pain was forgotten (until I tried to go downstairs the following morning!) lol

  • That will teach you to e- mail me all those years ago... look what you have achieved since then... ......image
  • LOL..... yes Rio how do I get a wetsuit to fit "Nessa"........

My time to 17 miles are as follows depending on the weather

Raining......given i'll take on another 3 stone in weight...i'll be there just before midnight

Windy......given the height of the costume i'll be there just before midnight

Hot.....i'll be with St John's somewhere..........once treated be there just after midnight

Raining, Windy and Hot.............sorry may not make it to mudchute...........imageimageimageimageimage

  • Rob I think if it is that windy you might not even get away from the start!!!

That was what it felt like to me with the wind in my face the whole time no matter how many corners I turned!! lol

So relieved never to have to do that again!

Yes Gatton I have come a long with thanks to your encouragement 6 years ago.   Don't know what I would have done without you image

  • imageimageimage   Tell G I apologise.....

ps. Rio this will be my one and only time in a costume..............image

  • Anyone been checking out the weather forecast, I know it means almost nothing at the moment.. But a few showers won't go amiss, except I don't want those wonderful supporters to get wet and leave us image

FLM virgin here, so does the weather really matter??

UK Outlook for Tuesday 21 Apr 2009 to Thursday 30 Apr 2009:

Initially it looks likely to be dry and bright with sunny spells, and possibly also some fog patches, but as we head through the first week conditions are expected to deteriorate from the west as bands of potentially heavy rain spread eastwards across the British Isles. Then later in the week, over the weekend and during the following week we are expecting generally unsettled conditions with either showers or longer spells of rain at times. In general the wettest conditions are likely to be found in northwestern areas whereas the best of any drier, brighter weather is more likely to turn up in southeastern areas, and perhaps also more generally across southern areas as we head towards the end of the month. Temperatures will be generally near normal for April.

  • AAAHHHHHHH!

Less than a week to go... So excited / scared!!

Hope all the runners are feeling good and that the supporters are being treated like the saints they are for helping us along the way....

  • Sorry guys I don't get online much at the weekends.   I was sea swimming though on Saturday so hadn't deserted you!

Enjoy this last week as much as you can.  Try and stay off your feet on Saturday.  Spend as little time at the expo as you can if you are going on Saturday.   Eat your main meal lunchtime and have an early light but high carb meal  before bed.   You probably won't sleep much but you will be ok.

The trains get packed so be prepared for that if you are a bit clostrophobic.   But you will be fine.  Everyone is pensive and excited and it is all part of the build up.   Try and queue for the toilets early (there aren't many at the blue start if memory serves me right) and then when you have "been" join the queue and start again!!!!   Then just soak up the atmosphere.

Wish I was joining you again.  But looking forward to seeing you all at mile 17.

If anyone is at the expo on Saturday I will be there about lunchtime.  In pirate gear with Rio on so if you see me come and say hello I will at least know who you are on Sunday then.

  • Hi eeeek only a week to go.  Getting exciting imageimage  Sorry I don't get much chance to post at weekend either.  Espcially this weekend as my bf's parents were visiting.  We had a nice trip to Woburn.

Lol about queueing and then joining again.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at mile 17.  Nervous excitment is about right, I found that as soon as I started running the nerves went.  Last year I felt quite squemish with nerves on the Saturday before as I had a niggle and was worried that it was going to bother me.  So make sure you get plenty to eat, even if feeling a bit squemish.

Rio - just a bit of advice, you say to eat a big meal sat afternoon then a light meal in the evening, only prob with me is that I get REALLY hungry when running but can't eat as it jiggles about and makes me feel sick (Even a couple of jelly babies). So plan was to eat pasta meal for dinner (about 7 pm) then eat 3 pieces of toast in the morning, if i don't eat like this, i'll be hungry - is that ok? What are the benefits of eating a light meal in the evening?

     AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I'M EXCITED!

  • Go with what works for you JWrun.  The reason I say eat early as it helps prevent toilet issues as the chances are you will have got rid of anything with your early morning ablutions!   7pm is early enough anyway.  Just don't leave it much later and be aware that the restuarants and eaty places will fill up early.

If you need to eat earlier than usual then it might be worth a bedtime snack of an energy bar or something so you don't get hungry.

No worries, thanks for that (All the little panics are starting to set in!) I'm at home the night before so is ok and i'm going to take my brekky on the train so i don't have to eat too early.

Think i'll be so nervous that I won't have to worry about any toilet issues once the gun goes off!!! Sorry for sharing but we're all runners and I'm sure we've all been there!!! image

  • image  Was trying to be polite (for once!) lol

I didn't know whether anyone reading this at lunchtime would have a delicate stomach image

  • JWrunJWrun ✭✭✭
oops - didn't think of that image
  • Its ok JWrun - they can look away for half an hour.  And as you say we have probably all been there!
