A list? Already???? Well, I just ran 3.28 in my first marathon and it was a hot one, but this one could be windy so I'll say 3.25 with room for revision nearer the time!
Hello everyone. Jovi, Susan, eastham, Tutu etc are all baaad people for somehow making me think that entering this was a good idea.... .
Have never been sure about laps, but I haven't managed to get sub 4 on a single lap course, so why not give it a go on a lapped course? And I know there'll be plenty of people all aiming for a similar time and we can all urge each other on.
Nice to hear the paths aren't too narrow. Perhaps the nice people out walking with their dogs will keep to the sides or just avoid the area if it's full of sweaty runners! Wind's quite tough... <remembers Edinburgh last year>
Don't forget the notoriously curious cows - the Town Moor is grazing.
On the last club race on the Moor, I was a marshal and spend my time shooing the beasts of the course and escorting anxious runners (male and female) through the herd
I shan't be wearing my costume for this one. I only wear it when I am running with Superman (you may have seen us on TV at FLM) and he left it too late to enter this one!
November seems a long way off. There's a few miles to cover before then. I do like new marathons but there have been quite a few this year and the piggy bank is running dry. I'm not sure about the free running cattle on the Town Moor. I do hope they're tame....... and not too inquisitive.
Hi Pam . The recommended Travel Lodge for two nights; the same as you and the Welsh Wizard. Must get off to bed. I'm running at Halstead tomorrow......... or it may be later this morning!
We're in the Washington Northbound Travelodge. The ones more central sounded as if they might be a bit noisy! Gil is a Goat not a wizard! LHWMG = Little Hairy Welsh Mountain Goat (Goat for short).
Pam. I got it all wrong. Mary and I are booked into the Newcastle ( New Bridge Street West ) Premier Inn which I was reliably informed, is near the Town Moor. So, we are not staying in the same place. Indeed isn't Washington about 20 miles South of Newcastle on the A1? What do I know? If it wasn't for the marshalls and arrows I'd get lost in every marathon. Sunny Halstead was an excellent event, pity about my performance. 5;19. I must do some training! Regards to the goatee!
Whilst running the last few miles of the Leeds Half Marathon yesterday and in a world of pain due to that being the furthest I have run in 7 months, a lovely little thought popped into my head - "This can count as Newcastle Marathon training!" And I have to say it made me rather happy and suddenly made the pain that little bit more bearable - seeing as I wasn't on for a PB and wondering why on earth I was putting myself through so much pain... it was nice to suddenly think of a reason for it all!
So my plan is to start training properly for this at the beginning of August, but hopefully keep up the distance of doing approx 13-ish miles every weekend (now I know that I can do it again!!) from now until then.
I am REALLY looking forward to this race you know. I ran my first 5 marathons all within 12 months of each other but have had a year off now and I'm itching to get back to the training... so I may well be quite over-enthuasiastic about the whole affair once training starts.. just to warn you all!
Seeing as we are such a small field (*gulp* - that still scares me a bit! ) it would be really nice to get to know as many of you on here before the day
well done on the leeds half tutu, im going to start my training beginning of august also and now im starting to get a bit excited but mixed in with absolute fear fof even thinking of attempting a marathon !!
still not really sure why or how i actually ended up entering this ! sure there would be a more pcituresque or 'easier' marathon for my first one.
Well mr sj, at least with it being a brand new one we are all in a similar boat wondering what we have let ourselves in for! Everytime I tell someone it's 5 laps they look at me like I've just said it's 1,000 miles... hopefully it will be a good first one for you though, I bet it will be really friendly with good spirit amongst runners, especially as there will be so few of us!
Should be a good race, and with such a small field the 5 laps will actually be an advantage as it should prevenr anyone being left completly alone for long periods of the run. as the faster runners may lap the slower runners but this then give me someone to follow or focus on for a while.
Good point Eastham... the smallest marathon I've done so far was Leicester which was - 700 maybe? And I was completely alone for about a mile near the end which finished me off, it was far too hard to carry on pushing with nobody around me, I hated it. But yes with the laps at this one, depressing how it might be to be lapped, it will just be nice to hopefully always have other runners around you.
And of course, seeing supporters 5 times will be ace
Ran around Regents park in London last week. Its a 3 mile loop,so went round 3 times.Thought i'd give it a go and find out what its like to run the same route over and over again.Turned out not too bad.Plenty going on around me to take my mind off the run.

CC2 - well done! I've been trying to find your result. That is a fantastic result. It was really hot.
Well done FLM-ers, great results in that heat!! I was only watching, and that was tiring enough, I was knackered!!
I know what I want at Newcastle time-wise but it does feel a bit early to publicly declare it and anything could happen between now and then!
Anyone else remember the last Newcastle Marathon ?
Only ran twice; Dairy Crest in 1983 and Spam 1984 - a circular route around the city boundary, still got the T shirts.
Don't fancy laps

Hi all,
Couldn't wait to enter this one, I love multi laps but only 5! (Used to doing hundreds) Goat and I are both in and staying Sat. & Sunday nights.
Drinkies afterwards sounds good to me. We are staying in Travelodge Washington so not too far to go.
Hope we get a good turnourt from the 100 Marathon Club, we love new events don't we Peter Burns?
I'm thinking of doing this on in fancy dress - just to stand out in the mass!
I shan't be wearing my costume for this one. I only wear it when I am running with Superman (you may have seen us on TV at FLM) and he left it too late to enter this one!
Hippo,
Are you in?

Hoots Mon!
I'm sure you can cope with a few moo cows! Where are you staying?
