I've been rejected 3 times running but each year have taken the option to donate the entry fee and will do so again this year. If I'm prevented from entering the ballot then London Marathon Charitable trust will lose my £30 (ish) and I'm not likely to start trying build toward another 5 rejections in future years so there's another £60 (ish) lost to their Charity in the future. After the amazing organisation of the actual event the entry process does not appear terribly well thought through.
I havent entered before because I didnt think I was fit enough. I have trained hard all year and finally plucked up the courage to enter. Sat down at 9am and found this shambles.
How can they justify this! I would like somebody from virgin or the london marathon comittee to come online and explain.
I have got 3 consecutive rejections will will presumably be wiped out if I can't even enter the site to register this year. Getting rejected is frustrating enough but not even being able to register for the ballot in the first place will be far worse!
Very concerned by the message which stated that over 101000 had already registered by 6.30am - I am kicking myself for not trying earlier this morning - more fool me for believing them when they said the ballot would open at 9am!
Tell you what, all of you guys stop pressing your refresh button. Allow me into the site, I'll get my appliaction out the way and then there'll be one less person clogging up the site and that should allow things to speed up a bit.
This probably won't help but I did London and Berlin last year. Berlin was a far superior race IMO and should always be worth consideration. London, as someone previously posted, is more of a fun event with loads more walkers and fancy dress runners.
However, i'm still here feverishly trying to enter London again

Please don't worry. This number isn't an indication of how many people have signed up. I got given 104300 at 2pm on the afternoon of the marathon last year.. and no way did 104,300 people sign up in two hours. I suspect the number system starts at 100,000.. so it's possible only 1,000 people signed up this morning.
The only good thing is that no-one seems to be coming on saying they've managed to register, makes me think that the whole site has gone down and not allowing anyone to register.
Arrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with all that have said go back to the postal system. At least that way you had to make a bit of an effort to apply and it seemed to be fairer. I am tearing my hair out trying to get onto the system and so far have done very little work. Nice to have people to rant with though
This is driving me mad. My conspiracy theory is that the site went up earlier than the advertised 9am so that friends of the organizers and others in the know could get a jump on we plebs. Probably just a cock-up, though.
Aaargggghh. I'm so angry. The Virgin London Marathon organisers's phone number is 020 7902 0200 but I bet their phone systems have packed up too now due to the number of complaints about this bloody shambles. Still trying, can't get anywhere since 8.45 this morning and I'm at work! Good job my boss in in his office upstairs! Absolutely ridiculous but I'm glad too to have other people to rant with.

Now it can't find the server again - have suspicions they've closed it for the time being.
Would be nice if Nick could confirm that.
Come on Nick, head above the parapet mate - there are serious questions that need answering here.
Yep I believe you do, as Real Buzz operate the online ballot. Both sites are on the same server, so Real Buzz is already down
Charity entries etc, but where's the normal one you go to? terrible service this
I really feel for the people who've never run this and looking for guaranteed entry
Yeah i'm thinking Edinbugh might be the one for me next year if i get rejected.
So is it consecutive rejections that count then?
This is ridiculous.
How did so many people manage to register before 09:00?

Feel like crying or screaming

Sound like a good plan?

Got to the Real Buzz site and registered, had the rply e-mail and logged on, I'm so excited.
Now what was I really trying to do before that??????????
Have spent the morning trying to access the site - fortinately the boss is away today!!!!!!!!!!!
NR - I think you are probably right.
The system's broke - that's the polite way of putting it! So that amount of people can't possibly have got through it successfully overnight.
NICK!!!!!!
Come on, what's happening? Should we give up and try later or what?
