Cardiff Half-Marathon

  • No race pack for me yesterday (wonder if the dog ate it?)
  • RatzerRatzer ✭✭✭

Ah, I need a pacer - couldn't catch the minute and a half I lost in the first half of Bristol.

1146.  Came yesterday.  First time I've run this one on the third time of entry.  And I have to keep my fingers crossed this time.  There's always some little niggle decides to become an op...

  • Pacers  from 1.30 to get you round so should find one to suit
  • RatzerRatzer ✭✭✭
1.30 will be the one I'm looking for.  If I can't do it here, I'm going to have to run Torfaen!  (But that's cheating slightly...)
  • Ooh lordy-I did 2:09 last year-my first HM-only decided to enter 4 weeks ago this year-done a couple of 12 milers but not confident! - Any last minute advice?
  • I think my posties gone walkabout to wrong direction.  I'm waiting for VLM rejection pack, Cardiff pack and a flippin pair of trainers .. image
  • Got my number and chip! 2243 image

Also got a grotty cold! image

  • Best get grotty cold now than in a couple of weeks! image
  • still nowt for me in the post.

although i have just finished my fancy dress costume

  • Nothing for me either.  Kind of hoping the dog has eaten it now image
  • Hovis, what is your costume?
  • No Cardiff pack forme yet, and I live here image

    Got my London rejection though!

  • Ooh, I have been informed that a Cardiff pack, VLM rejection AND the trainers have all arrived this morning.  Well done Mr Postie! image
  • Got my Cardiff pack on wed morning image

Stray Celt What time are you pacing? i'm looking to go under 1:35 fingers crossed...

Still waiting for my VLM stuff though? what are my actual chances of getting in at my first attempt...?

    Got my London rejection though!

Maybe you could do a proper job of training with me this time then image
  • Daz
Sorry about VLM. Looks like another year before you can update your posing pic!
You could always run Cardiff twice, though I remember you passing me in Pontcanna the last time it was a Marathon and a half, and you didn't look too happy!
  • He never looks happy Spike.  Its just the way he is image
  • I'm still waiting on my Cardiff pack and my VLM rejection (probably) - it's my first year of entering the London marathon and will be my first ever marathon...if I get in!

Hope everyone's training is going ok - I managed to pick up a chest infection so have been a bit set back by that, but running again normally now....well as normally as I can, which is still fairly duck-like!

  • Rio - I like a challenge but not sure about accepting mission impossible lol.
Tis true Spike, Cardiff mara was not my best lol.
Cato - better being sick now than on race day, some gentle training now & you'll be fine.
  • Hi guys, I'll be pacing the 1.40 group while listening to Spike making up some good sentences. Got my VLM rejection today but my son was accepted. Off to Loch Ness for a wee jaunt round the water. Train well, back soon.
  • pingu- my avatar is a clue lolimage

still no race pace, although it does say on the e-mail, it could take up to the 14th

  • Fanstastic, I shall look out for you image
  • I might come and join you on the 1:40 group Stray Celt, not sure what time to aim for and will no doubt be undecisive and won't decide until the day.
  • Got my race pack and my VLM acceptance mag today.  Both franked by the dog on arrival at the house!

    Number 4446 for me image

Daz who said it would be mission impossible?

  • I'm actually getting nervous now about this race which is strange for me but given it was the first ever race I did 12 months ago and I was really pleased with my team (1:45), it's an important race for me. I think I'll aim to start off with the 1:40 group but really I'd just love to beat last years time, even by a second!
  • RatzerRatzer ✭✭✭

I did beat my PB by a second this year, laurag, and I think it's about the most annoying thing you can do in competition with yourself!  I mean, one second!  What's the point in that!!  If I missed it by a second, I'd be upset, but I'd know exactly what I needed to do.  If I beat it by loads of seconds I'd be really happy that my training was paying off.  But one second, what does that mean?  Can I stop there?  One second in 13.1 miles!  At least I know what my race pace is...

  • I've not had my race pack through yet got my VLM reject though.  I too will be racing in pirate kit.  Am aiming for around 2:10 if i'm being realistic.  Did 2:01:25 at Llanelli but have had a knee op etc this year so am no where near fit enough.  As I watched last year on crutches anything is a bonus this year image   Have a hilly 10 miler planned for tomorrow.  Is anyone doing a long run next weekend too or starting to lay off?  Can't  decide.....

  • Long hilly one for me in the morning too.

  • Anyone got a number and not racing? Its not for me its for a mate who has been injured and did not enter.
  • Well I know I'm not in the best shape and don't feel ready. I've done fewer and shorter long runs than last year. I got shin splints training for the marathon and took time out. But it's 18 months of running versus 6 so I just don't want to do worse!
