Schmunkee - Thanks. You should try a club-organised race sometime. They're cheaper, in my opinion friendlier, and even if you're slow and at the back the marshals will still give you a clap and/or cheer. And after all, the club-organised event would welcome your support.

I'm pleased that a few people agreed with the points I was making. Thanks for your nice comments.
Ooops, Mr Bump - read that the Marshalls would give me the clap! . Mmmm, me not convinced re club races. Would hate for the Marshalls to be out for hours waiting for me to come in. At least at a mass participation event, I know I can beat the Dalek or the Banana!
What I do with any race I've not done before is look at the previous year's results. If I couldn't feel happy I'd likely come in ahead of the last few, I probably wouldn't enter.

Nothing wrong with coming last.
I came last (well, was last finisher) in a small Marathon in '07 and got a huge cheer from everyone at the finish and good company at the bar afterwards with the race organiser.
Am I too late for the flounce and drink combination?

If you are, then make sure you take the chip off your shoe or you'll end up like me..............
Sorry, bit late, looking for the crisps in the cupboard, then realised I had to take that damn chip off my shoe. Yep, I've got the pepper ones and the balsamic vinegar if you'd like. Here you are, sorry it's so late.
My god!! I have not run 10ks since my teens (now aged 57) and all these posts are scaring me off big style. I obviously need to put myself last at the start for fear of upsetting anyone.

Well said, Mr Bump (what a polite man,) and slo sho.
Slurp.........
Aaahh, that's better, thanks for that MD
Kettle chips anyone (hands around bag...........)
Doesn't the world seem a better place after a glass of wine or ten.
Remember that one I found the other day - Mummy's wine, the box with the straw - not much left........, sorry
Share and share alike, Slo Sho. She is probably held up at the back trying to force her way thru but the slower flouncers are in her way
Are they the Sea Salt and Crushed Black Pepper, CJBA?

Cider drinker me. There be only two kinds of cider - singing cider and fighting cider...
Unless you count sleeping cider
That did make me laugh, that one!
Mr. Bump - agreed. Club races are the best...
What the heck.................... it's my round and you've all started without me.
<going off to google "how to flounce on a forum">
<passes LWJ a glass>
This round is on me

<takes a few Crushed Black Peppercorn Kettle Chips and passes round the wine>
I have lurked here for a while and now feel ready to bond so let the bonding begin
<holds out arms for group hug>
Hugs Schmunkee.
Actually (and this must be the wine talking) I keep looking at the tabs at the top of the profile page and think it says "Event Ranting"
(((Schmunkee)))
(((everyone else too)))
This must be hugging cider!
